Your Afternoon Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. Your photos will go into the queue (usually 6-8 weeks wait) and will be posted in the order I receive them. If you’ve already entered your pet and would like to do so again – that’s no problem – just space the entries out a bit. Please try to send horizontal photos 640×480 (medium size on your iphone) if possible. If you’re not using an iphone any size is fine.

“Arya is a three legged pit mix that came up to my girlfriend in a hospital parking lot in rural New Mexico; most of her back leg was missing.

From what it sounds and looked like she survived a nasty attack from some hounds on or near a Navajo reservation. Convinced that sometimes the dog chooses you… my girlfriend took her in. An amputation and long plane ride later she rules our Takoma park condo from her iron doggy bed.

We are both Game of Thrones fans so we named her Arya; we felt it a good name for feisty pup that cheated death, escaped a hound and people often confuse her for a boy.”

“Here’s pictures of Radar and Hexli in Pleasant Plains (or maybe Park View).”

  • Beautiful cats, and love how the kind people rescued Arya- great story! Sounds like she is a lucky dog.

  • Yeah for special pets and special pet parents!

  • Well Arya obviously knew where she needed to be and who she needed to be with. Yeah!

  • Arya’s gorgeous. I have a tripod, too! Mine had her leg amputated last summer and now I feel like I run into tripods everywhere.

  • Radar is amazing. Reminds me of a kitty who once loved me, and only me.

  • To Arya’s parents: thank you for being such wonderful people!

  • Hi, all! I’m a volunteer with the Washington Humane Society and just want to let everyone know about the dog adoption promotion that the Washington Humane Society is running this weekend. Unfortunately space for dogs is currently tight at the shelter, and WHS is seeking to find as many loving homes as possible for the terrific pups in their care. Through this Sunday, adoption fees for dogs are reduced to $25. This includes the cost of spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchipping. Please note that standard counseling and screening adoption procedures will continue to apply to all applicants. Visit to see all of the pups available for adoption at both shelter locations and in foster care. Thanks!

Arya’s folks should read Ken Foster’s The Dogs Who Found Me. And any of his other books, especially I’m a Good Dog (about pits).

Arya looks like a schmoopy love bunny!
I think Radar is going to steal my soul.
    Hexli looks like a sweetie.

  • What gorgeous cats! I had a blind cat once; there’s something particularly endearing about them. I assume Radar is the blind one. Hexli is glowing in that sunny patch- she’s bewitching!
