Thank god I brought my homemade carnitas for lunch today.

  • This is what happens when you eliminate earmarks.
I’m sorry. Someone was going to do it. It might as well have been me.

  • I prefer the Carnitas at District Taco. Chipotle quality control has really gone done, especially at this 14th Street location.

    • That little piggy didn’t go to market!

Re: District Taco, I’ve been there a number of times and each time have been unimpressed by their food. Individual ingredients not being tasty. Even the breakfast tacos were blah. How do you mess up scrambled eggs, cheese, and bacon in a tortilla. I think they’re coasting on their name.

    • The carnitas is the only meat that has ever given me food poisoning at Chipotle, though that was years ago. I still avoid it.

  • I’ve noticed the local groceries (Petworth Safeway, CH Giant, AM Harris Teeter) have been suspiciously not carrying pork shoulders for a few months now. Wonder if that’s related.

  • Out of the Responsibly Raised Pork, eh? OK, give me the Irresponsibly Raised Bratty Punk Pork then.

  • Carnitas are also not available at the Union Station location

  • The sign in Columbia Heights should read:

    No Flavor.

and then direct customers to Cava for a much more flavorful experience.

  • Chipotle announced that they pulled carnitas from a third of their stores, because one of their suppliers wasn’t living up to their humane-treatment guidelines. They audited the supplier, found the violations, and cancelled the contract.
“This is fundamentally an animal welfare decision and it’s rooted in our unwillingness to compromise our standards where animal welfare is concerned,” Chris Arnold, the company’s communications director said. “We would rather not serve pork at all, than serve pork from animals that are raised in this way.”
I’m really impressed they’ve decided to stick to their guns on this issue. It makes me much more likely to eat at Chipotle.
