This is one of my favorite things in DC. Taking my folks this year since they’ll be in town.

  • When I went to check this out last year around 4 p.m. or so, the pickings were pretty slim and it didn’t look as though the food was going to be replenished. I guess you have to get there early.

    • Uh, yeah. Says on the tin that it’s 12-2, or when food runs out.

      • It says until 2 a.m., not until 2 p.m. And it doesn’t say “or until we run out of food” (though perhaps it should) — it says “or when we fall into a food coma.”
In my family, we usually do Thanksgiving dinner around 4 p.m. I didn’t think it was unreasonable to show up to this event at 4 p.m. and think that there would still be food; that’s why I wanted to warn PoPville people. When an event is advertised as “all you can eat, 12 noon until 2 a.m.,” it seems a bit questionablefor the food to be gone 4 hours into the 14-hour event.

It says the business opens at 12PM, and the business closes at 2AM. Nowhere does it says that it will be all you can eat from 12-2, just that they will be putting out a spread at 12PM.

          • It would be helpful if they said “12 p.m. until we run out of food” or “Come early to make sure you get maximum helpings!” I don’t think it was unreasonable for me to think that they’d be replenishing food until 6 p.m. or so.
It was depressing enough to me that I was spending Thanksgiving on my own, and even more depressing that when I finally got my act together and got over to the Black Squirrel, all the food was gone.

I agree that does suck, but it’s gotten much more popular over the years (if you hadn’t heard of it previously then you probably made a reasonable assumption). I was there for the first one they did and showed up at 7PM to a full table of goodies.

        • It’s $7, people don’t need a freaking “warning”…most of us have common sense to know. This is not your immediate families house…this is a bar in DC who may be like your family.

      • anon’s was not an unreasonable comment.
when i hear that an establishment has an all you can eat buffet, i never think i need to show up at opening time just to eat.

        • Lionel Hutz: Now, Mrs. Simpson, tell the court in your own words what happened after you and your husband were ejected out of the restaurant.

Marge: Well, we pretty much went straight home.

Lionel Hutz: Mrs. Simpson, remember that you are under oath.

Marge: We drove around until three in the morning looking for another open all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant.

Lionel Hutz: And when you couldn’t find one?

          Marge: [crying] We… went… fishing.

Lionel Hutz: Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, do these sound like the actions of a man whose had ALL he could eat?

  • Sweet! I am going to try to get my neighborhood homeless people over to this and treat them to a big lunch!
