Your Afternoon Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. Your photos will go into the queue (usually 3-4 weeks wait) and will be posted in the order I receive them. If you’ve already entered your pet and would like to do so again – that’s no problem – just space the entries out a bit.

  • Is there a limit on the number of dogs that can live in a residence? Those 4 look darling but it makes me wonder how much barking 4 dogs together bark.
Is that first dog a purebred Irish Setter?

    • It’s odd that I know this, but there is a limit and I think it’s five. I had some problems with a neighbor who I suspected may have been somehow involved in a dogfighting ring, so I did a bit of research before reporting him.

On a side note, you’d be surprised how little some dogs bark. It depends on breed and other factors of course, but there are some dogs that, if properly trained, will only bark when someone enters the house.

      • Agreed. The only dog I ever lived with barked when there was someone at the door, and at no other time. Just two barks, you know, in case I hadn’t heard the doorbell. 🙂 And my neighbors on both sides have non-barking dogs (one woofs for the doorbell, one howls occasionally when she’s lonely, but that’s it), for which I am grateful.
That said, I do have a (largely unfounded) prejudice against small dogs for being yappy.

      • My dog (husky-German Shepherd mix) barks about once a year, and that’s only when he’s playing at a dog park. It’s not training, he just doesn’t bark. It’s pretty humorous when he does bark, because it seems to surprise him that noise just came out of him. The downside is that he won’t bark if a stranger comes into the house.

There are two dogs next door to me. They bark a LOT. I wish their people would train them.

You could anonymously gift them a couple of citronella collars… best invention ever!

        • I hope you’re kidding. It’s downright abusive to use a citronella collar and doesn’t actually solve the problem at all, just temporarily stops the behavior. In fact, long-term use can cause the dog to become fearful and develop fear-aggression. Also when you stifle a dog from barking or growling (both warning signals) the dog is likely to turn straight to biting with no warning. An extremely dangerous situation to be in.

I’m not kidding. 🙂 Citronella is harmless to dogs, and one or two sprays do the trick in most situations to train a dog when not to bark. I’ve used them for years and have a lot of dog experience.

            Have a great day!

  • What a gorgeous coat Themis has! And she looks so noble and dignified.

  • Themis is the most beautiful dog I have ever seen. Normally I think dogs are “cute” but Themis makes me feel downright ugly and insecure.

  • My brain just exploded from the puppy-cuteness overload. KABOOM.

  • Benny looks lovely in that sunbeam – so warm

  • Did Bailey used to live on warren Street? If so, I’m the girl who was doing work on the house next door which was owned by the guy I was seeing at the time. It would be great to get back in touch.

  • I agree with all the comments on Themis. He’s very striking. He almost has gravitas with that restrained expression and out of frame stare.

  • OMG Bailey, Zoe, Baxter & Kodo! I love you all!!!

  • Themis is a good looking dog. What breed?

  • Themis looks like she just stepped into a commercial for Irish whiskey. Very good photos of everybody today. Love Benny in the sunlight and wow four furballs in coats. So cute!

  • Themis is a gorgeous pooch. Would love to have hair that color (at least naturally).
