“I am curious about the Burger King at 4422 Connecticut Ave in Van Ness. It is three stories, one floor is decorated in 80′s movie decor, the other decorated with Rock n Roll memorabilia. Do you have any history on this location?”

I stopped in last week and couldn’t believe how bizarrely awesome it was. Anyone know why it’s decked out like this? The workers I spoke with didn’t know.
And for the Friday question of the day – do you know of any other equally strange buildings/places in DC?

I'm sorry that you see the bus as a low-class means of transportation. Perhaps this...
"Al Frisky" makes me think of Al Bundy and Friskies. Not the sexiest image.
It’s a little known fact that this Burger King was the TV show set for The Max from Saved By the Bell.
What?!?! Is that really true?
Yes, and if you look very closely, in the second picture, you can also see the word ‘gullible’ written on the ceiling.
HA!
The League of Justice, home of the ATF on New York Ave has my vote.
Do they really do enough business in a 3-story BK to justify not selling the land to a developer?
obviously
I think they have been open for close to 20 years
ummmm, it’s near a university and a high school… clearly they do pretty well.
what a strange question.
Zips, the dry cleaner next store, has the cheapest dry cleaning in DC. If you dry clean a lot, it’s worth going out of your way because you save so much.
On a couple occassions I got food from this BK and ended up feeling ill. It’s grungy…I don’t think it’s gotten a thorough cleaning since they hung that 80′s movie memorabilia when it was still current.
The Mansion on O St is the classic crazy interior in DC–everyone should take a tour or find a time when it’s open for brunch or happy hour. It seems to have become more accessible in recent years.
o street mansion definitely has my vote for coolest place in dc.
I was totally going to comment about the O St. Mansion too. Definitely among the stranger places in DC. I think they are open today for their big sale / NYE brunch.
What about the shack in the alley behind Wisconsin Ave that is now like the back rooms of Rocklands? I think this place was once a residence. It looks like it is smaller than most rowhouse bathrooms inside.
Re: the shack. I park on that block and have seen lights on inside there a few times.
It’s the Rocklands corporate office. It doesn’t need to be huge, it’s just a desk and some file cabinets. I assume they bought it because Rocklands is pretty small and probably doesn’t have much room for a manager’s office, and also because it came with a few parking spaces in that bank lot.
if I had to guess (and it would be just that), it looks like BK’s answer to the Rock N Roll McDonald that started in Chicago and sprouted up elsewhere in the early to mid-1980s.
and the wesley willis song of the same name! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWWsWP9bPAg
And I worked at the Rock N Roll McDonalds in Waldorf, MD. Heeeerrdy hoo!
I’ve heard that this Burger King was actually a test concept similar to Rock & Roll McDonalds, and it has more or less been forgotten by time.
I’ve eaten there many times, and as far as Burger Kings go, the food is pretty good.
I don’t know if it necessarily qualifies as strangest, but I’m tripped up every time I pass by Dolphin and Evans Title Co. on 4308 Georgia Ave…something about the turquoise and concrete grating: http://local.yahoo.com/info-12397819-dolphin-evans-title-ins-washington?tab=photos#photos
I like it. It’s like if it was 1986 and you asked a seven year old boy what he would do with a million dollars.
Here is my “strange place” — It’s a house, I suppose, looming over Porter St. The house is not so odd, but there are these steep steps leading up to it. Who lives here? Is this on a public street?

look at the map you linked to. the access is via a driveway off of klingle road. not sure what is so odd.
My vote goes to the Congressional Club on the corner of U and New Hampshire. It has like 12 events a year with valet parking and then random cars seem to use the circular driveway as their own parking. So strange.
