You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this week?

Rave: Tommy John surgery could save Strasburg.

  • Rant: Having to look at Fenty Advertisements on this blog all the time when I don’t care for the guy.

Rave: Weather rocks. Gonna go check out some tasty veggies and good bluegrass music at the Georgetown Farmers’ Market this weekend.

  • Rant: EL Haynes has placed ugly no trespassing signs and sealed the gates in the one nice large open space along Webster. Will miss the weekend soccer matches and the daily dog owners conventions.

Rave: Awesome weather for Happy Hour on the Miss Ann!

    • Rant: Speaking of closed fields, Adams Mill soccer field is perpetually closed, it seems. How can the city build an entire park on GA Ave, but can’t manage to fix up an existing soccer field.

Rave: Went to see the baby gorilla playing outside at the zoo. That is one cute little primate.

  • Rant: nobody has signed up to run for the ANC seat in 4C03

  • Rant: In front of DCRA this week, an elementary school age girl cursed me (“what the f*ck you looking at?!?!?”) for staring her down after she threw a rock at a complete stranger to impress her friends.

    Rave: Columbia Heights Day tomorrow.

  • Rant: Traffic in the ‘burbs
Revel: Not living in the ‘burbs

  • Rave: the paperwork for my scooter came in today and I can go get registration taken care of!

Rant: the scooter itself will not be here til Monday.

Rant: my captcha has a pi in it. My computer does not contain the symbol for pi. WTF captcha!

  • Rave: I just skipped the pi symbol altogether and my comment still posted!

  • Rave: Columbia Heights Day and the DC State Fair on Saturday – brushing up on my pie baking skills tonight! Still not quite sure what type of fruit pie I’ll make…

Rave: Signed up for voice lessons at BloomBars! I can’t wait to get my voice back.

Potential Rant: Seven people need to sign up for the class in order for it to run. So if you’ve ever thought about voice lessons, please take a look – http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/125036 – and support a great local organization while having fun with your neighbors!

    • Rave: I’m intriqued about voice lessons and am looking for some local groups to join in order to meet people and make friends.
Rant: I’ve never sang before and am not sure anyone would actually want to hear me try.

      • You should try it! BloomBars folks are awesome and the instructor has a great reputation. Plus at only $20 a lesson, the price can’t be beat!

  • Prince Of Petworth

Holy Cow!!! West End Cinema Movie Theater with concession stands serving food & alcohol beverage service Coming to 2301 M St, NW

More on this later but wanted to share the great news.

    • I’m guessing this is just replacing the old theater that shut down there a few years back. Sounds like a different business model, maybe an indie house like E Street?

    • I think the G’town U blog covered that a couple weeks ago. Honestly,I’d rather them bring back a cheap 2nd run theater like they used to have in the Mill.

  • Rave: Missing the teabaggers and getting out of town this weekend for one (first and) last beach trip of the season.

    Rant: Missing Columbia Heights Day.

My husband was walking our dog around 10 this morning, and came upon a very friendly yellow dog that seems to have gotten loose. The dog is male, golden in color, short coat, about 40 lbs, pink collar, very friendly and well trained. My husband flagged down a passing cop, who had him put the dog in the fenced yard on the corner of Kansas and Emerson. The cop said he would call animal control.

I hope this turns into a rave very soon!

    • Join DCDOG (yahoogroups) or hillhounds and post the info there. The DC dog community will cross post and hopefully ID the owner.

Don’t rely on the DC animal shelter for help. Sometimes they have the dog or a description of the dog and don’t know it.

    • I know it takes some time, but if you have the time you could post some signs in the area you found him, just letting people know that a dog of that discription was taken to NY Ave shelter.

Scarey idea that the cop said to put the dog in a random backyard.

yes, i’m a bit worried about that. we really need to fence in our yard. The people on our block are pretty nice though. hoping it is okay.

I’m going to post flyers tonight. I really hope that dog has a microchip!!

  • Revels: going to Iceland next Tuesday with one of my favorite friends! Baseball game, DC State Fair, and pool party this weekend

Rants: Not enough iron to give blood yesterday. Not enough ripe tomatoes to enter in the fair. Lots of work to do before vacation. Lots of work when I get back.

great location, wood floors, yard, garage…

Rant – Many people found house before we did.

  • I wonder if that blue budgie made it home. I was tempted to say that I’d take him if his people didn’t turn up, but then I found out what birdcages cost these days…

RAVE: the tweens and teens who ran straight for the books when they came into the library

    Rant: Have to work tomorrow

Rave: Farm share keeps getting better and better. Got a huge, seedless, unbelievably sweet watermelon!! Can’t wait for the fall squash.

  • Rant: Can’t stand my job. Poor relationship I can’t seem to get out of. No friends. Life, overall, kinda’ sucks.

    Rave: Beautiful weather!

  • Rant: weren’t the cat winners going to be announced today? The suspense is killing me.

    Rave: Pleasant Pops 🙂

  • Kalorini, you should have told the school kid who said, “suck my c$%k” to grow one!

  • Rant: Frustated! My 3rd bike was stolen on Sat night (15th & U). If you see a blue (looks bluish-green), Transeo 3.0 with disc brakes, report it to the police. The bike looks new and stands out because it’s an X-large frame. Thx!
