Become an astronomer and observe the Sun safely with a filtered telescope. Join us outside the Museum at the corner of 7th Street and Independence Avenue, near the silver Delta Solar sculpture, to view a variety of features on the Sun.
Knowledgeable staff will be there to answer questions and guide observing. No reservations are necessary to participate in solar observing outside. This program generally takes place on Fridays and Saturdays.
If weather or other conditions do not permit observing (clouds, smoke, extreme temperatures), hands-on astronomy activities will be offered inside the Museum instead. Ask the Welcome Center staff where to find the astronomy activities.
Note: Free timed-entry passes are required to enter the Museum in DC.
