About the workshop
Land, Place, and Displacement: The importance of community and connection to land
Ecopoetics has been defined as the cross between poetry, ecology, and politics. Though ecopoetry encompasses a wide variety of themes, we will focus on land, displacement and the effects of imperialism on the Global South’s ecological realities. During this generative workshop, writers of all levels will be invited to study pieces that tackle land and our relationship to nature through the generations. We will view how the past, present, and future shape our perspectives on communal responsibility with the lens of ecopoetics. How do we grapple with the decay of the world around us while still fighting to preserve our natural resources with our writing? Through writing and reading we can become more informed about environmental justice and how it relates to our struggles against war and displacement.
