Join us for a special Children’s Sabbath celebration focused on listening to children, honoring their voices, and helping every child develop the skills and confidence to learn, grow, and thrive.
Our celebration will begin with worship at 10:00 AM, featuring children’s author and education leader Ashley Iman as our guest speaker. Through worship, reflection, and the voices of our children, we will explore our faith’s call to care for young people and work toward literacy equity for all children.
The celebration will continue during coffee hour at 11:30 AM, where families and community members can connect with representatives from several organizations doing meaningful literacy work:
– Reading Partners, which supports students through individualized reading instruction
– Reading Is Fundamental NOVA, which helps children build home libraries and develop a love of reading
– 826DC, which encourages young people to express themselves through writing and helps children publish their own books
Guests can explore helpful resources and learn about opportunities to volunteer, donate, and support children and families throughout our community.
Children will also have the chance to meet a very special visitor: Clifford the Big Red Dog! Clifford will join us during coffee hour for photographs, hugs, and plenty of fun.
Thanks to the generosity of Our Kids Read, we will also distribute 100 free books. Each child attending may choose one or two books to take home. After the children have made their selections, adults may choose one book to share with a child in their lives, while supplies last.
