Like just about everyone else, we’re still feeling the sting of not getting any tickets to The Atlantis. But we’re here with excellent news!

D.C.’s other hottest ticket is 20% off right now (with code POPVILLE20), in honor of Shakespeare’s birthday. For seven exclusive performances this week only — happening April 25-30 — the Folger Theatre will bring the world-premiere of “Our Verse in Time to Come” to Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company.

Inspired by the works and words of the Bard himself, this play is unlike anything that’s graced the stage of The Globe — or any other stage. It’s a powerhouse exploration of today’s most urgent social justice concerns.

An aging emcee, returning from prison, suddenly faces a diagnosis of dementia. Realizing it’s his last chance to reconnect with his children, he arranges his estate to ensure his grown twins accept it before his memory slips away for good.

This isn’t just a play, either. It’s a high stakes, high energy arts immersion that blends soul-stirring storytelling, gripping drama, and live music from local legend DJ Nick tha 1da in wildly inventive and urgent ways.

And when we say the show is immersive, here’s what we mean: the production is intimately designed so that every seat is on the stage itself. This is not the show where you slump in your seat and doze off.

But it is the one you’ll brag about having been a part of.

Tickets are limited and are selling fast. And they’re just $20 today with code POPVILLE20

The patio is open and the flamenco dancers are thrilling at the Alabardero!

Washington’s La Taberna del Alabardero adds to its many reasons to visit — in addition to the authentic Spanish meals it has been serving District residents and visitors since 1989 — spirited evenings of live flamenco dancing.

Talented flamenco dancers accompanied by musicians bring the passion and expressive movements of traditional flamenco on select Fridays and Saturdays from 8-10 p.m. (It is recommended to call ahead).

Performances will spill out onto the patio — weather permitting, but please note that the patio is now available for al fresco dining with the best of authentic Spanish and Mediterranean cuisines and an extensive wine list. Also for happy hour.

As for flamenco dancing — which often depicts passionate tales of love and loss — the dancing fits the restaurant’s authentic Spanish menu as easily as tapas. Requiring years of rigorous training to master, flamenco represents Spain’s cultural heritage, and at La Taberna del Alabardero, the talented dancers and musicians, along with the music, food, wine, and atmosphere, transport visitors to the heart of Spain with their vivid performances.

Best of all, there is no additional charge for this thrilling cultural experience.

The Halberdier Tavern is at 1776 I Street NW, between H and I. Call 202-429-2200 or email at this contact form. Make reservations online or order carry-out here.

Come move with District Fray this Saturday, April 22 from 8 p.m. to midnight at metrobar in celebration of our April issue, giving locals an eclectic, choose-your-own-adventure roadmap for what “move” means to them.

We invite you to explore our movement-based party, kicking off with an all-night DJ set. Experience a video installation by co-curator Maps Glover, skateboarding and roller skating performances, a screen printing workshop, live mural painting by local artists and more.

We’ll also have outdoor bar activities running all night, including cornhole, flip cup and giant games.

A cash bar will be available, but arrive within the first hour to nab a drink ticket sponsored by DC Brau.

Get tickets before they sell out!

This Saturday is Earth Day! To celebrate, we wanted to share how Well-Paid Maids, D.C.’s living-wage cleaning company, is doing its part to help the planet.

While other cleaning companies rely on harsh chemicals, we have only use safe, eco-friendly products.

In the spirit of full transparency, we list specific cleaning products on our website. Each has been rated “low concern” or “lowest concern” from the Environmental Working Group, a leading organization that researches and rates products based on health and sustainability.

Clients are happy with this choice, too. Yelp reviewer J.O. said:

“…the eco-products smell like a day spa and don’t linger (unlike harsher cleaners). With a small child and pets, it’s really important that our house isn’t getting bombarded with chemicals, and the products they use clean just as well!”

Elle V. wrote:

“…when they’re done, my house doesn’t smell like a chemical bomb went off. It’s just CLEAN.”

Of course, we are committed to providing clients the best experience, but using safe cleaning products is important for our employees, too.

Before Jasmine Cooke joined Well-Paid Maids, she worked at a hospital that used harsh chemicals. “You would cough, or you would feel like you were about to pass out,” she said.

We take care of our employees (not contractors!) in other ways, too, with a starting wage of $23 an hour, insurance, 24 paid days off per year, paid commuting costs and more.
