The homegrown footwear retailer Laiik is sharing its elegant handcrafted leather sandals in Dupont Circle.
After a successful run as a Georgetown pop-up, Laiik opened it’s “Summer House” at 1710 Connecticut Avenue NW. Designed as a Mediterranean living room, the pop-up features their collection of classic Greek sandals in addition to handmade products from other up-and-coming Greek designers, such as handbags, beach towels, artwork and more.
Laiik is founded by second-generation Greek-Washingtonian siblings, Helene and Nickolas Theros, who set out to update the classic Greek sandals they discovered as teenagers in Athens. They work with 30 skilled craftswomen and men in two small family-run factories in Athens and source their leathers from two tanneries in Italy.
From the sole to the uppers, all the sandals are made with vegetable-tanned leathers, a process that uses natural tannins from trees and plants and is designed to ensure a low impact on the environment.
