The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is actively hiring recruit classes each month as it seeks to bolster the ranks of one of the most progressive and diverse police departments in the country.

MPD has just over 3,550 officers currently. Sixty-six percent of MPD’s officers are from diverse racial backgrounds and 23 percent of MPD officers are women, while the national average across police departments is 11 percent. MPD is committed to reaching a 30 percent female force by 2030. The bottom line is, the MPD is recruiting to further mirror the communities it serves.

MPD recruits are some of the most educated entering law enforcement, with the majority of new hires having bachelor’s degrees. Recruits come with backgrounds in a wide array of academic fields as MPD leaders realize these candidates bring valuable perspectives and soft skills needed to be effective police officers, such as empathy, problem solving and strong communication skills. Welcome to Coffee with Coleman! I’m John Coleman, and in this feature, I’ll cover real estate topics in fun and easy-to-digest video breakdowns. If there’s a topic you are interested in hearing more about, feel free to comment on the video and/or reach out to me directly.

In this video, we explore the different considerations and challenges people face when they need to buy and sell a home at the same time.

The most important thing is getting a game plan ready and knowing the biggest hurdles.

Most Thursdays I host a livestream at 6 p.m. to cover a lot of the nuts and bolts of the home-buying process. Sign up here to learn more: www.learntobuydc.com

Ever wondered what the holiday season was like in the earliest days of the Nation’s Capital? Explore life in early Washington this Christmas with a visit to Dumbarton House, the longest-running museum in Georgetown.

Dumbarton House is decked out for the holidays, although not as decked out as you might expect. Learn about the customs and celebrations of years gone-by with a visit to the museum during our open hours, Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by attending one of our holiday programs.

For a magical experience, join Dumbarton House for our holiday open house on Friday, December 3 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. See the house by (faux) candlelight, try wassail, a Federal period holiday punch and make a Christmas craft from the early 1800s. Can’t visit in December? Never fear, we always have new programs and exhibitions so follow us on social media to stay up to date.

Although not as grand as our neighbor, Dumbarton Oaks, our grounds are a beautiful oasis in the city, open daily for free, from dawn to dusk, and we even have free Wifi!
