The owner of this awesome kitchen writes: “Our contractor works on his own. He is John Hellmandollar, and we turn to him every time we need any work completed we can (more…)

Above you will find Lisa’s super fresh renovated kitchen. Lisa writes:

“The kitchen was crap – there were no drawers! not even one! i kept my silverware on the counter! The tiles on the floor were all cracked…then came Bruce! www.cityfinish.com He really works with what is already in your house, and he helped me create a modern kitchen that still resembled and worked with the feeling and architecture in my house. He was awesome – him and his contractors. This took less than a month to complete. It came pretty close to $40K and took 4 weeks. The entire kitchen was literally demolished – floors and ceilings too. The best part about the kitchen (which isn’t particularly captured in the photos) is that it really works with the old character and colors in my house. It is a modern kitchen but it blends in nicely with what was already there (in other words, I don’t feel like I need to re-do the rest of my pad to make it match the kitchen). Granite countertops, gas range, stainless steel appliances, lots of storage… love it!”

I can understand why. It looks absolutely fantastic. Check out some before photos and another finished photo after the jump.

I’ll also take this opportunity to request more renovation photos from you all. They can be of any part of your house – bathroom, kitchen, basement whatever. I’m also particularly keen to get some photos of people’s back yard gardens. I’ve really been enjoying the front yard gardens I’ve spotted but I’m sure there are some incredible back yard gardens as well. Don’t be humble, show off a little and send some photos to [email protected] (more…)

Do you like when the first floor is one material and the second floor is another? Or would it be better all one material/color?

This house is located at 2226 12th Street, NW and the asking price is $637,800. The flier says that the house is completely renovated and has two huge bedrooms, two full spa like bathrooms, powder room on first floor and a chef’s eat in kitchen. You can check out some photos of the inside here. It also has one of the sickest copper backs that I’ve seen (photo after the jump). So what do you think good deal or not? (more…)

Thanks to all who sent me emails about the giant trucks on Webster Street. And thanks to a reader for sending the above photo as well. One reader described in an email how it felt like a scene out of ET. I had the chance to walk by the home today and snap a few photos. Interestingly, there was an inspector there to check to see if the home was on the up and up. I think this is very interesting. I’ve never seen a prefab home assembled before. Aside from it being cheaper, I assume, are there any other benefits to prefab homes? How long will they last? I’m dying to see what the final product looks like. But for those who have seen them assembled do they look good? Check out some more photos after the jump. (more…)

It’s not quite finished but you can definitely get a feel of what it’s going to look like. I kind of dig the contrast of the modern architecture of the new place with the classic Florida Grill building. What do you think, do they compliment each other or clash?

What is that material? And do you like it as a finished building material?

A few months back I posted about some homes on Kenyon between 11th and Shepherd Sherman that were damaged by fire. Well, a reader wrote me today telling me of the great work done on 2 out of 3. Sadly, the scuttlebutt on the third home is that the owner did not have insurance and will have to sell. I thought all homes had to have insurance? At any rate that is a very sad situation. But on a happier note it is really nice to see how quickly and more importantly how nicely the first two home were fixed up. Here’s what it looked like back in February.

I can’t remember if I’ve asked a question like this before but I’m seriously curious to know how much it would cost to renovate a home like this one. Let’s not say top of the line but not a crappy job either. What are we talking about, $100,000? $200,000? More?
