I thought this was an interesting renovation/extension because at least they kept a porch area. Nevertheless, what do you think of bump outs to the front of rowhouses?

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the wall falling down on this building. Well they fixed it. The thing is the bricks don’t match the other bricks? Is that weird? Do you think it looks ok with mismatched bricks?

It looks great from the outside. What’s the word on the inside? Looks like they are applying for a liquor license as well. Very promising. (more…)

It never ceases to amaze me how nice PoP readers can be. I have been invited to so many dinners, bbqs, happy hours and parties. I’m not always able to attend all of the invites but I super appreciate them. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the nice folks who have invited me to get togethers. This is all a lead in to some super nice folks who invited me to check out a “greatest spot to drink a morning cup of coffee.” Pictured above is the precocious Olivia and her Mom and Dad(‘s leg). Indeed their coffee spot was delightful. I’ve been pining to check out one of these upper decks for ages. The owners of this house, both architects, have an incredible set up. There is a spiral staircase that leads up to a deck with a view of a beautiful tree and Rock Creek Church Road. It is really cool because there is no alley. The front of their home faces New Hampshire Ave. and the back faces Rock Creek Church, very cool indeed. So we had some killer coffee and pastries. It just boggles my mind how nice complete strangers can be. It made me realize just how lucky we are to live in the community in which we do. I don’t know what it is about Petworth, Park View, Columbia Heights, Mt. Pleasant etc but folks are beyond kind. So I just wanted to publicly thank all who have been so kind to me and surely many others as well. More photos of this incredible home after the jump. (more…)

Photos taken by Heather Goss
Home renovator, Heather Goss has completed her kitchen. And it looks awesome. She wrote about it on her blog at Washingtonian. I really dig the cabinets. Take a look at some more finished photos and a before photo after the jump. (more…)

Wow, is this going to be a double pop up? Or just one floor with two sets of windows? At this point, what do you think, will it look alright, or is it going to be a brutal eyesore? Just for reference – below is the only other example of a double pop up I’ve ever seen.

Former PoP Profile, Heather Goss, will host a live chat tomorrow over at Washingtonian. The chat will be Wednesday at noon, and readers are encouraged to submit questions early. Here’s the link:

Should be pretty cool.

So why would someone need to demolish an entire rowhouse like this? Are they normally gutted and renovated? What would be the reason for a total demolition like this?

I suppose there may be a balcony built as well but I have a hard time envisioning it.

This one also has a nice spiral staircase which looks like it leads to a nice deck area. Could probably use some plants – I bet you could grow some great tomato plants up there with all that sun exposure. I also like the nice glass enclosed space on the first floor. Surely a great morning cup of coffee spot for the colder months.
