I just spotted this new privacy fence that has sprouted in the last week or so. I have to admit I have often thought about getting a privacy fence myself given that the alleys are usually less than pleasant to look at. But I have hesitated in getting one because I am poor. But that is really not the point. So tell me does getting a privacy fence send the wrong signal to your neighbors? Does it close you off? Given the state of the alleys in DC I’d say that I am leaning in favor of them.

Please look at the photo below to see why I am so against this picture. Well, this is the third picture from the renovation occuring at Upshur and NH. It was a beautiful shell that I fear is being ruined. They have extended the two level house to include a third level. The bottom two are brick and the third looks like it will be vinyl. Good idea or a damn shame? What are your thoughts?

This was a regular row house that was extended to include a new third level. I dare say it is vomit inducing.

I was greeted this morning at the metro by a giant Michael Brown banner. Personally, I prefer to have my coffee before I am greeted by gigantic Ward 4 Council candidates.

I know the car is in the way, but it is New Hampshire Ave, there always cars there so cut me some slack. I think it adds nice depth.

Signs that lead me to believe I spotted a hipster at the Petworth metro:
Red shoes with white socks;
Vintage leather jacket;
Stylish eyeglasses.

Ed note: I do not use hipster as a pejorative simply a description. I actually think hipsters are great for the neighborhood and I hope to see many more.

Going with the Temperance Hall theme, this week’s Petworthian to be featured is Ms. Della Williams, chef of Temperance Hall.

Where do you live: Georgia Ave.

How long have you lived in Petworth: 10 years.

Where did you live before Petworth: North East, DC.

What do you like best about Petworth: Everything is convenient.

What do you like best about being chef at Temperance Hall: All the regulars are great and they always compliment the food!

Where do you like to hang out when you aren’t working at Temperance Hall: Temperance Hall!

It is very rare that Fox 5 news and I are on the same wavelength but today we were. After a long day of golf I wanted to put some pictures up of Temperance Hall. Well, I learned that Fox 5 had just preceded me. Unfortunately the light was streaming in the windows so I couldn’t really get good pictures. But what I can say, without reservation, is that Temperance Hall is the greatest bar in Washington, DC! Now, I say this for a few reasons. First of all, if you are a Petworth resident, it is like going to your living room. Most of the patrons are Petworth residents and there is just a really chill vibe in the air. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly to me, the bartender Sott had played a couple of Drive By Truckers songs. That in and of itself is worthy of a hight rating. Also I had a grilled cheese sandwhich with mustard, tomato and french fries for $5 which was fantastic! But honestly as you can see in the picture there is a pool table, chandeliers, stained glass, and really really good people and food. What more could you ask for?

You can check out the Fox news report here.

I thought it was about time for an update on that awesome shell on New Hampshire and Upshur. I have to admit I had been pretty pessimistic of late because it seemed every time I walked by there was no progress. I am happy to report today there was an army of folks at work over there. One sure sign of movement are the windows that are going in. Also I spotted a front door. Any guesses as to what they’ll put this on the market for when finished?
