The Old Post Office Pavilion is located at 1100 Pennsylvania Ave, NW. I think this is one great looking building. You can read about its history here. Do you dig the style?

A nice spot to get away from the crowds. Pershing Park is located at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. General John “Black Jack” Pershing led the American Expeditionary Force in World War I.
There is also a very relaxing pool and fountain which is used as an ice rink in the winter. (more…)

In yesterday’s judging buildings, folks were already singing the praises of Founding Farmers restaurant. Robyn checked it out back in December. Founding Farmers is located at 1924 Pennsylvania Ave, NW. You can see their menus here. Anyone recommend a particular dish? Any new fans out there?

I thought this one was really cool. It is the Mexican Embassy on Pennsylvania Ave., NW. I like how the built it around the two existing row houses. What do you think – thumbs up or down?

Brasserie Beck is located at 1101 K Street, NW. I feel like I’ve heard tons of buzz about this spot yet I know nothing about it. The menu looks good if a bit pricey. I haven’t had a croque monsieur in ages. They also have a huge beer menu. So what’s the word? Is it worth the coin?

Stan’s Restaurant is located at 1029 Vermont Avenue, NW. I feel like this is a legendary spot for some reason. I seem to recall you walk downstairs and there is a pretty lively lunch crowd here. So what’s the story here? Is the great lunch spot? A great drinking spot? Both?

I thought I’d round out the week with a couple more cool buildings I spotted around downtown. The one above at 1100 New York Avenue is one of my favorites. What year do you think it was built?

This one is from 950 H Street, NW that I thought was super cool because the glass part sticks out which kinda reminded me of a big sail. Dig it?
From a reader:
“Any idea what’s on fire downtown near McPherson Square? Our whole building smells like it’s on fire but we can’t seem to find the source!”
Anyone know what’s going on? If someone snaps a photo send to princeofpetworth (at) gmail (dot) com. Thanks!

Loeb’s Deli is located at 832 15th Street, NW. I have a former colleague who swore by this place. As we are often discussing where we can get the best sandwiches I thougth Loeb’s was worth discussing, especially for those that work downtown. Personally, I’m super curious about the pastrami sandwiches, I’m always on the look out for some good pastrami. So any fans? Any specialties? And what always tips me off to good delis, do they have Dr. Browns soda? (Any Dr. Browns Celery fans out there?)

You can tell that the building behind that huge billboard is super cool. What a shame and a bit ironic, yeah?
