You can easily walk by this small basement store at 1843 14th Street just south of T Street. Now, I’m not a huge record fan but you have to dig the style of this store. And wasn’t it just national record store week or something like that? Actually, now may be a good time to explain to me the appeal of purchasing records. Is it because the quality is somehow more authentic? Anyway, this store is super fresh and if you like the vinyl you ought to check it out.

From press releases:

“Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and Councilmember Muriel Bowser are scheduled
to hold a press conference tomorrow morning (Friday, April 25) at
10:30 am to announce the Request-For-Proposal for four properties on
the 3800 block of Georgia Avenue NW.”

Sweet, four properties to be developed on the 3800 block of Georgia Ave., alright, alright…

And from U Street:

I think the courtyard of the Union Row condos looks awesome. The condos are located on 14th St. between V and W and this is a pretty sweet location that should be factored in for “good deal or not”. Apparently there are two types of condos – The Flats and The Warehouses. The Flats prices range from studios in the high $200s, one bedrooms from mid $400s and two bedrooms, the upper $400s and two bedrooms/dens from the upper $500s.

The Warehouse has single level units from the high $300s, 1.5 level units from the upper $400s and 2.5 levels from the low $700s. If anyone can find interior pictures be sure to post the link in the comments. But this is a new building so I’m sure it looks nice. Now have at it, good deal or not?

From a press release:

“Mayor Adrian M. Fenty on Thursday, April 24, 2008, will announce a new development plan that will generate operating support for the Lincoln Theatre and provide new amenities for the U Street neighborhood. The Mayor will also provide an update on several other projects along the corridor.”

Anyone know what they are referring to regarding the “other projects along the corridor”? Has anyone been to the Lincoln Theater?

I frequently walk by Jin at 2017 14th Street just north of U street. So what’s the story is it a restaurant or a club or both? Is it any good?

But what is that sculpture over the sign? Does that represent a crown? And incidentally, will you be sad when eventually all the pawnbrokers fade from 14th Street? I think they add some nice flavor and character. And I always know where to go when I want to pick up a butterfly knife or a violin for that matter…

This is potentially super cool news. Thanks to a reader for sending me this link from DCMUD about possibly development on U Street across the street from the Ellington Apartments. DCMUD reports:

“Though in its very early stages and likely to evolve, the vision is to replace the current strip mall across the street from the Ellington Apartments, replacing it with a single building that would house underground parking, retail on the ground floor, a boutique hotel on floors 3-8, and possibly capped by two floors of residential to max out the density.”

So do you think this is a good idea for that spot on U street?

No cell phones? I can’t decide if that is the coolest thing I’ve seen or if it is slightly insane. It’s not like it’s a movie theatre but I generally despise people’s phone conversations. So, ok, I’ve decided this is a pretty cool policy. What do you think?
