I am not affiliated with this group but was sent the meeting announcement.

G.A.R.D.S will be hosting a meeting on July 10th, 7:00pm to talk about how
Central Union Mission can be stopped from relocating to the 3500 block of
Georgia Avenue. The meeting will be held at the Park View Recreation Center
located on the corner of Warder and Otis Pl, NW.

Thanks to reader Ed for his heads up about this condo conversion on the 3400 block of Warder St. So what do you think, is this how it is supposed to be done?

Ed writes:
“It’s an old rowhouse being converted to condos across
the street from Park View Elementary on the 3500 Block of Warder St..
Just like the house at NH Ave and Upshur they’ve added a third level,
but it looks sooo much better than the one on NH Ave. The 3rd floor
addition in this case is also brick, so it matches the lower 2 floors,
and they also made the window alignment on the addition the same as the lower floors. It looks like it could have been there for years.”

Agree? Disagree?

Welcome to a new feature from PoP. Neat neighborhood finds will feature some less popular, and some lesser known neighborhood stores. Volume One is proud to feature Mom and Pop Antiques located on the corner of Otis and Georgia Ave. This is a fantastic store that looks a lot like a deranged person’s house or at the very least someone with a very serious obsessive compulsive disorder. It is jam packed with every conceivable tshotke. As you can see from the photo, my favorite is the Cutty Sark lamp. They have everything from mirrors, to chairs, to cabinets, to records to you name it. It is fantastic and certainly worth checking out. If you have a neighborhood find that you think should be featured please email me at [email protected].

So is it still coming or not? This is the homeless shelter that proposed moving to Georgia Ave. south of the metro in the Park View neighborhood. For a while I saw yellow lawn signs protesting the move. Then I heard there was a proper protest. Most of the candidates for Ward 4 were against the move as is Councilman Graham. So has anyone heard anything. Is the shelter on its way?
