Wow, Cap. Lounge scores big this one. From a press release:

Washington, DC- The Capitol Lounge, one of Capitol Hill’s most storied restaurants, is raising the bar to a new level this summer. Finalist of Food Network’s The Next Food Network Star and co-owner/executive chef of Granville Moore’s, Teddy Folkman has entered the fray on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Chef Folkman, debuting on Food Network’s The Next Food Network Star on June 7th, will unveil a menu that touches both on his celebrated dishes at Granville Moore’s and Capitol Lounge’s classic pub fare. Dedicated to enhancing the Capitol Lounge dining experience, Chef Folkman brings his own signature style and pedigree to a block that already boasts the likes of Food Network’s own Spike Mendelsohn of Good Stuff Eatery and Barton Seaver of Sonoma. He formally assumes the role of Executive Chef on June 8th, 2009 with a new menu launching that week.

Banana Cafe is located at 500 8th Street, SE on Barrack’s Row. You can see their menu here. By the by, I haven’t visited Barrack’s Row (8th Street, SE) in quite a long time. Holy cow has it changed. Tons of bars and restaurants. Anyway, I’ve heard folks talk about this spot for quite a while. So any fans out there?

Phenomenal! The reader writes:

“I was wandering through Capitol Hill and found this door south of Lincoln Park. I was originally attracted to the fantastic color of the building, deep plum with green trim, and the stained glass window over the door. But as I got closer I saw the sign on the door which read, “Please, no firewood or religion peddlers” , in a very artistic and tastefully done way, I thought.”

I finally went and visited the lovely residents of the house featured here.

It’s a really great space, and that store front window provides a sort of stage-like space inside the apartment. Perhaps for karaoke parties?

They took me out to their patio to show me their outhouse and great grilling space. You may recall that they said that the building had previously been a German bakery – you can still see the charred wood from where they used fire to bake the bread in the back building (which now serves as the owner’s garage).

Many thanks to Sharyn and Nick for letting me snoop around and share pictures of their very cool apartment with everyone!

The flier says:

“ADORABLE VICTORIAN ROWHOUSE WITH LOTS OF WINDOWS AND LIGHT! GOOD PHYSICAL CONDITION BUT NEEDS KITCHEN, UPSTAIRS BATH. WHAT A GREAT CONDO ALTERNATIVE! YES THIS IS A HOUSE NOT A CONDO!”

More info and photos found here.

The reader writes:

“It obviously needs work (like, um, a kitchen), but it seems like even if you put in $100k (which seems high) it would be one of the least expensive 2BRs in the area. But I don’t know the neighborhood that well–does sketchy stuff happen at the gas station next door? And has anyone ever lived near a gas station–does it suck as much as I could imagine it would?”

Hmm, I’m not too familiar with this area so I’m hoping some of the Hill folks can help out with describing which neighborhood this actually is. This is a pretty small house at 490 square feet. Does $259,900 for this location sound reasonable for those in the know?

You know how when you live in one place for a long time, you sort of start to take for granted what’s neat about it? Sometimes it takes a new eye to remind you of why you’re there in the first place. Well, this is kind of like that.

I sometimes forget that the rest of the city kind of ignores my part of the world, especially that stuff which isn’t conveniently located on Pennsylvania Ave., 8th St., H St. or at Eastern Market. So when I offhandedly mentioned to my NW-dwelling friend that I’d gotten food at Jimmy T’s today, she actually asked, “What is that?”

It’s not her fault really. I have a hard time dragging my friends over here for a night out (to their credit though, it does happen) let alone cheap, greasy, comfort breakfast, and I can see how I may not have really mentioned it since it’s Jimmy T’s – it’s just not all that special.

Sure, there’s the Leg Lamp from A Christmas Story. And an autographed Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle from A Christmas Story. And pictures of the cast from A Christmas Story. And sure they serve breakfast all day, except for Mondays and Tuesdays when they’re closed. But, it’s just Jimmy T’s, right? Continues after the jump.
