I briefly mentioned Mayorga coffee located in the Tivoli on Park Rd and 14th St but I don’t think it has received enough attention. This place is ridiculously good. You can kind of see from this picture it has vaulted ceilings on the ground floor. And this place is huge. There is a lounge adjacent to the ordering area with wifi and big flat screen tv. Plus upstairs it has a super cool bar. This place is honestly insane. It looks so modest from the outside but they have truly taken advantage of the Tivoli’s architectural features. I talk a lot about good vibes and atmospheres of restaurants/bars. At Mayorga as soon as you enter the doors you take a big sigh of relief it is so pleasant. If you haven’t checked it out yet, it is an absolute must!

Thanks to a few readers who have alerted me to Nani Kafe on Harvard on Sherman a bit south of Petworth. The proprietors were fantastic and they make a mean latte. If you are reading this from the Park View neighborhood I believe you have found your go to Coffee shop. I asked the owners how they chose their location and they replied that this neighborhood was in need of a good coffee shop. This cafe has definitely filled a gap on Sherman Road. Best of luck to them.

Of course Columbia Heights has a Dunkin Donuts that is about to open on 14th St. just south of Harvard. Man, they know how to taunt me. I promise this is my last Donkin Donuts post for a while. Thanks to Chris for the heads up.

I have not forgotten you. We are such an unlikely love affair. I despise the Red Sox “nation” and all that is New England, yet you are inextricably associated with that cultural backwater. I hate Tom Brady and his freaking smirk. I despise Manny. Yet I love you. I was first introduced to the beautiful coffee bean by your arch rival in Seattle. Starbucks. I know you get upset when I even mention her name. Forgive me. You have had my heart ever since I first sipped you in New York. I know how I have written that I will not lobby for you in Petworth. But I will never forget you. Mark my words, whether it is one year, five years or ten years we will be together again!

It is official, Columbia Heights coffee has the best tasting coffee within walking distance of Petworth. Not a bad place to sit outside and drink it either.

I like what one commenter posted below suggesting that choice is good. I really think that is a brilliant if succinct comment. And speaking of choice, Mayorga Lounge in Columbia Heights near the Giant grocery is super cool. It has two levels and everything that you can ask for. I still love Columbia Heights Coffee on 11th Street but it is nice to have choice especially when it is crowded there. But they are both great places to get a cup of joe and hang out. And hopefully we will get lots of choices like this in Petworth too. Ok maybe not lots of choices but at least a few choices. Has anyone else tried Mayorga yet? Thumbs up or down?
