With one major holiday behind us and a few more on the horizon, we’re in that weird slump between eating turkey and chowing down on too many cookies. Luckily enough, the real estate market is not slumping by any means with 280 opens scheduled across the District. Check out some of our recommended options below and to see the full Open House List, click here.

Welcome to Coffee with Coleman! I’m John Coleman, and in this feature, I’ll cover real estate topics in fun and easy-to-digest video breakdowns. If there’s a topic you are interested in hearing more about, feel free to comment on the video and/or reach out to me directly.

In this video, we explore the different considerations and challenges people face when they need to buy and sell a home at the same time.

The most important thing is getting a game plan ready and knowing the biggest hurdles.

Most Thursdays I host a livestream at 6 p.m. to cover a lot of the nuts and bolts of the home-buying process. Sign up here to learn more: www.learntobuydc.com

Ever wondered what the holiday season was like in the earliest days of the Nation’s Capital? Explore life in early Washington this Christmas with a visit to Dumbarton House, the longest-running museum in Georgetown.

Dumbarton House is decked out for the holidays, although not as decked out as you might expect. Learn about the customs and celebrations of years gone-by with a visit to the museum during our open hours, Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by attending one of our holiday programs.

For a magical experience, join Dumbarton House for our holiday open house on Friday, December 3 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. See the house by (faux) candlelight, try wassail, a Federal period holiday punch and make a Christmas craft from the early 1800s. Can’t visit in December? Never fear, we always have new programs and exhibitions so follow us on social media to stay up to date.

Although not as grand as our neighbor, Dumbarton Oaks, our grounds are a beautiful oasis in the city, open daily for free, from dawn to dusk, and we even have free Wifi!

Well-Paid Maids, the D.C. area’s only living-wage home cleaning company, has been recently recognized for its relentless commitment to high wages for its workers.

The firm has received a Tier II+ certification from Living Wage for US, an Oxfam International-incubated national living wage accreditation program. The certification was announced during the global “Living Wage Week” in November. Tier II+ is the highest certification awarded at this time.

Well-Paid Maids’ staff are employees, not contractors, and as such receive health, dental, and vision insurance; 22 paid days off each year; and 100 percent reimbursed commuting costs, among other benefits. In order to determine the company’s level of certification, Living Wage for US calculated the total value of all cash wages and benefits provided to staff (for the record, almost no matter where you live, $15 an hour is woefully inadequate). Based on that calculation, Well-Paid Maids employees effectively receive more than $25 an hour when cash wages and the value of benefits are added together.
