Yeah, this whole block is sick.

Any guesses?

This one put a huge smile on my face.
Well, I’m going to try again. PoP is looking for an intern! Yes, I tried this once before and I actually got an intern…which lasted for, I think, one day. I still wrote her a great letter of recommendation. Anyway, you don’t have to be called an intern, you can have any title you’d like. But this what I’m looking for – someone who lives in Petworth, Columbia Heights, Mt. Pleasant, Shaw, Logan, U Street…or you know the neighborhoods I cover. Specific tasks will include- interviews, research, and any cool ideas you may have. The time commitment would be 8 hrs a week or more if you wanted to. At the moment this will be an unpaid internship but you’d get a sweet t-shirt and a lot of flexibility to do some interesting research, writing and photography. So don’t be shy, if interested shoot me an email at [email protected].

This was submitted from Allison Street. I suspect there’s going to be lots of folks jealous of this one, including me. Yes, for me I no longer suspect it, I am jealous. After the jump check out another angle of the kitchen. (more…)
Why are there so many empty storefronts around the Convention Center? It seems like such prime property. Plus it is so close to the now bustling Chinatown area. I know there are a few spots on 9th St. but 7th St. seems fairly empty. So, why a deadzone around the Convention Center?

Ah, so this is there it is! Arguable the best name ever.

Very cool. Do you like the front?
Thanks to a reader for sending me the below lengthy email from DDOT improvements in Columbia Heights including the building of the Pedestrian Plaza. You know the spot now that has all the damn pebbles. I’m not going to hold my breath on July 2009. I also saw a date of 2011 but I’m not sure what that’s referring to. Anyway, it sounds like it is going be pretty sweet when finished. What do you think?
Dear resident:
Over the last several weeks, as the DC USA project finished and the new retail shops started to open, DDOT staff has received many communications from the neighborhood concerned about DDOT’s commitment to continue with the implementation of the Public Realm Plan developed with the community over the course of the last several years. This evening members of the DDOT team and I met with the Columbia Heights Public Realm Project Community Leaders group and provided the briefing listed below. I want to take this opportunity to reach out to the entire community to reiterate DDOT’s commitment to implementing the plan. (more…)
