Exiting the Petworth metro this afternoon I was handed a flier announcing Papa John’s grand opening at 1417 Otis Place. Until May 31st you can get a large 2 topping pizza for $10. 202-667-7272 Wild. But I guess the question is: If you can get delivery from Moroni and Bros. why would one ever get Papa John’s? I guess that garlic dipping sauce is pretty damn delicious.

The delays have been announced by a press release from WMATA. Props to DCist. The press release says:

“Metrorail riders should add 30 to 45 minutes of travel time into their schedules while riding the Green and Yellow lines during four weekends as Metro conducts a vital track rehabilitation project at the Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Metrorail station.”

Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center switch replacement schedule

  • Friday, May 9, 11 p.m., to Sunday, May 11, midnight.
  • Friday, May 16, 9 p.m., to Sunday, May 18, midnight.
  • Friday, May 30, 9 p.m., to Sunday, June 1, midnight.

It sounds like the perfect opportunity to sample the new Bit o’ Lit.

Yeah I know, for locals, Don Jaime’s isn’t exactly a neighborhood find because it’s fairly well known. But for those visiting from Wisconsin it certainly is! Anyway, I’m excited to hear what people think about Don Jaime’s. Located on 3209 Mt. Pleasant Street near Lamont, Don Jaime’s is one of the restaurants in Mt. Pleasant that is now featuring live music seven days a week. I learned that they only recently opened a bar upstairs a few weeks ago. I also hear that they have great breakfasts and even offer vegetarian options. Unfortunately the bar was closed when I stopped by so I wasn’t able to check it out yet. Has anyone had the chance to stop by? How’s the music? (more…)

Above you will find Lisa’s super fresh renovated kitchen. Lisa writes:

“The kitchen was crap – there were no drawers! not even one! i kept my silverware on the counter! The tiles on the floor were all cracked…then came Bruce! www.cityfinish.com He really works with what is already in your house, and he helped me create a modern kitchen that still resembled and worked with the feeling and architecture in my house. He was awesome – him and his contractors. This took less than a month to complete. It came pretty close to $40K and took 4 weeks. The entire kitchen was literally demolished – floors and ceilings too. The best part about the kitchen (which isn’t particularly captured in the photos) is that it really works with the old character and colors in my house. It is a modern kitchen but it blends in nicely with what was already there (in other words, I don’t feel like I need to re-do the rest of my pad to make it match the kitchen). Granite countertops, gas range, stainless steel appliances, lots of storage… love it!”

I can understand why. It looks absolutely fantastic. Check out some before photos and another finished photo after the jump.

I’ll also take this opportunity to request more renovation photos from you all. They can be of any part of your house – bathroom, kitchen, basement whatever. I’m also particularly keen to get some photos of people’s back yard gardens. I’ve really been enjoying the front yard gardens I’ve spotted but I’m sure there are some incredible back yard gardens as well. Don’t be humble, show off a little and send some photos to [email protected] (more…)

Now you have another option for reading material on the metro! I just noticed this today but the premier issue is dated May 5th. Bit o’ Lit “provides a selection of top fiction and non-fiction excerpts each issue, allowing you to sample and evaluate books on your own terms.” Ok, but I’m not sure on who’s terms I was evaluating books before…

It looks like they recently got a new paint job. The media center is located on Georgia Ave. just south of Upshur. Apparently it is an internet cafe among other things but it always seems to be closed when I walk by. So has anyone been here or no what the deal is?

And it’s for sale too. I saw this at Miss Pixies new location on 14th Street. I’m not sure if you can tell from the photo but the rooster is gigantic. Super cool. But “Let me understand, you take the hen, the chicken and the rooster. The rooster goes with the chicken. So who`s having sex with the hen?”

It was a bit sunny out when I took this photo but I think you can see it is a fairly unusual plaque. Do you like the compacted numbers or do you find it too hard to read? I like them as they are a bit unique and have a nice flavor.
