The house all the way to the left was once featured as a house of the day. But I’m wondering what you think about the building vis a vis the block? I dig the modern look but I also think it clashes rather than compliments the more traditional rowhouses towards the middle of the block. What do you think – clash or compliment?

Well, not exactly. Thanks to a reader for the tip. Sadly, I think it is just a section of Best Buy. I didn’t actually go into Best Buy because I am boycotting them due to their crazy return policy. How awesome would that have been to get a Apple Store in DCUSA?

As we’ve seen over the past few months, there has been a huge increase in outdoor drinking/dining options? Pictured above is Local 16 which has a great big roof deck. I thought it was time to register people’s favorites. I’m a frequent visitor of Wonderland’s outdoor beer garden and Red Derby’s space out front. But I think if I had to pick the best one, I’d vote for Local 16. What’s your vote?

The hot dog eating contest in the “public realm” in Columbia Heights was awesome. And a little disgusting. But it was super fun. There were tons of participants who were quite enthusiastic. There was a good crowd as well, I’d estimate around 75 or so give a take a few dozen. I only stayed for the first round because well, you can see from the pictures. Check it after the jump. (more…)

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the wall falling down on this building. Well they fixed it. The thing is the bricks don’t match the other bricks? Is that weird? Do you think it looks ok with mismatched bricks?

I thought it was a wedding. It turns out Saturday was St. Gabriel’s birthday and apparently that is a pretty huge deal in the Ethiopian Orthodox church. I’ll tell you what though. Despite the huge party and food I didn’t see one paper plate littering the street. These are some great neighbors.

And Happy St. Gabriel’s Birthday to you all.
