Potentially super exciting news. I received this email yesterday:

“I am in the beginning stages of exploring the possibility of opening an upscale deli with a small lounge area serving wine and higher priced beers in Petworth, ideally on Georgia Ave. (possibly somewhere around the 4500 block). The deli would be open from 4 p.m. until 12 a.m. and would offer both eat-in and carry-out options. The décor would be modern with the music played being some of my favorites—thus running the gamut from garage rock to classic rock to punk to soul to classic rap to hybrid acts.  I truly think Petworth needs more eateries, particularly in along the lines of a gourmet take-out. Thanks.”

Remember the discussion from last week when a reader found a pistol? Well, I just got a great update:

“Good news! I got a call just now from a Sgt. Reimel of the DC police forensics division…he told me he saw my story on your blog and wanted to follow up with me.

Once the gun came in they were able to test-fire it and they recorded the ballistics images and uploaded them to the ATF’s ballistics database…if it matches anything it can be used in prosecution.

The Sargent was extremely forthcoming and friendly and made me feel a LOT better about the whole situation.

I guess you never know who’s reading your site!

I hope you put this up on the site…I think that their good work in this case should be recognized!

“Dear PoPville,

My wife and I live in Columbia Heights and read your blog. Walking around last week we came across the impressive and slightly spooky old Hebrew Home for the Aged building at 11th St. and Spring Road, NW.

As I was searching around to get a sense of the building’s history, I found some informative comments posted in response to a post of yours from last year. Point being:

Do you have any other thoughts or do you know anyone who might have some additional thoughts on the history?”

Folks never cease to amaze me with their knowledge of DC history. So who’s got the history of this home on 11th and Spring?”

“A coffee cupping is the technique that coffee buyers and roaster use to judge coffees. In some ways, it is a lot like a wine tasting, in that you slurp the coffee, spreading evenly across your tongue and then spit it out. However, rather than brewing the coffee in the traditional sense, it is steeped in small glasses. This not only brings out a wide variety of flavors, but helps to maintain consistency across different coffees. On Thursday, we will be sampling three coffees with distinct histories and trying to put names to the flavors that are exhibited by each.”

Domku, of course, is located on the 800 block of Upshur in Petworth.

Ed. note: Full disclosure, Fresh Off The Roast is an advertiser on PoP. But hell this is a cool event whether they were advertisers or not.

So it seems “PI” is coming in the place of Blue Fin on 18th Street in Adams Morgan. Anyone know what PI will be? Restaurant? Bar? Both?

Sometimes I sing when I’m listening to the I-pod. So I was at lunch, absentmindedly, singing and this woman looks at me with the oddest expression on her face. So I laugh and say, “I’m sorry was I singing?”. She replies, “no it was more like howling”. Ha! Beautiful. For the record I was “howling” Tear Stained Eye by Son Volt.
