Also nice stone work plus I’m a huge fan of the condo name – The Mendota. I neither know what it means nor what it is referencing but I know one thing – it’s classy.

Upstairs of course. Which reminds me – I’ve been meaning to ask what is the best drip coffee? Illy or Dunkin Donuts?

I’m digging the paint job and the slate steps. How much do you think it costs to put in slate steps like that? Also much respect for the window unit, cause that’s how I roll as well. Solidarity!

THE GARDEN
BEST DOCUMENTARY, AFI SILVERDOCS FILM FESTIVAL
BEST DOCUMENTARY, CAMDEN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
This award-winning documentary chronicles the complex and emotional story of the destruction of Los Angeles’ South Central Farm. Created from the ashes of the L.A. riots in 1992, the South Central Farm was the largest urban farm in the United States until its destruction in 2006. “The Garden” follows the farmers as they organize and launch an impassioned public battle to save the farm. The film documents the farmers’ struggle against the city’s backroom deals, and exposes the underlying issues of money, power, poverty and racial discord. The film explores the fault lines in American society, raising crucial and challenging questions about liberty, equality, and justice for the poorest and most vulnerable among us.

The Washington Post Going Out Gurus have the scoop:
“Between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, you will no longer be able to hail a taxi on 18th Street between Columbia Road and Wyoming Avenue. Instead, you’ll have to go to one of two officially approved taxi stands, either at 18th and Kalorama (on the west side of the street, in front of Awash restaurant), or in the alley behind the SunTrust Bank near 18th and Columbia. “The idea is to reduce congestion,” says Kristen Barden, executive director of the Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District, adding that door staff at all the bars and clubs are being briefed to tell customers where to go.”
So what do you think – is this a good idea? Do you think this will make it easier to catch a cab on Friday and Saturday nights? Or do you imagine brutal lines and fights given how wasted most people will be? I’m very curious to see how this turns out.

Chix, located at 2019 11th Street, celebrated their one year anniversary last weekend. I was happy to hear that but I was even happier to learn that they now offer delivery. They haven’t fully worked out how far they’ll deliver but roughly from the Howard University area to 18th Street and from Logan Circle to Columbia Heights. They are a bit flexible so if you live outside of those parameters (in lower Petworth for example) you should still give them a call. If you are dining in they are also offering $10 bottles of wine on Friday’s and Saturday’s from 8-10pm. Delivery is offered Monday to Friday from 6pm to 9:30pm. No charge for the delivery, but the minimum is just $10. Call to find out if they deliver to you 202.234.2449.
Congrats Chix!

Looks like it might need a little work done but it is nice that it has a lot of the original details. So do you think $720,000 sounds reasonable?

Rice is located at 1608 14th St NW and is a great spot to hit before listening to some Jazz next door at HR 57. I’ve only eaten at Rice twice and I remember that the service was a bit slow but that the food was quite good. Any fans out there?
Per Kalia’s request I’ll also try a star rating system and see if that works:

This past year, I experienced my first broken bone. I grew up as a swimmer, so I was never in a position to break bones with my hobbies. Apparently biking is a different story. I was on a long bike ride and about a mile from my house at the end of my ride, when my back wheel hit a pothole cover and I ended up breaking my right elbow.
Luckily, I didn’t need surgery or a cast – I was in a sling for six weeks. More people approached me and talked to me on a random basis than ever before when I was walking around town with my sling. I even had conversations about why I was in a sling in Spanish. The teenage boy speaking Spanish to me about it proceeded to tell me about how he hurt his knee playing soccer in Spanish. From the grocery store to the bus to being out at a bar, everyone wanted to know what happened and people were very helpful.
I joked with my friends that the sling was a man-magnet. This was especially true one night at Local 16, which to be fair is a pick-up spot in and of itself. I was there for a friend’s birthday and another friend’s celebration. I could barely take one step away from my friends without a new guy approaching to ask what happened and come chat. The sling was like an opener, I guess.
To be honest, it was an adjustment not wearing a sling anymore and being treated like a normal person. I was thrilled that my elbow was healed and I could resume my normal activities, but it really was an adjustment.
Has anyone else been in a sling or a cast and had similar experiences?
