For quite a while all the “Don’t Dump” signs had been to the Chesapeake but over the past few months I’ve noticed these new signs. The one’s I’ve seen have been around 11th Street near U St. Not that I don’t like the Chesapeake but I’m glad we’re starting to embrace the Anacostia River as well.  These signs may not be as fancy as the Chesapeake ones but I love ’em even more for it.

I told you Blagden Ave. in Crestwood was pretty sweet. Check out the two decks to the left and the right as well as the gigantic window in the middle. Awesome.

“Dear PoP,

Further away from the circle, right near the Luna Grill, I noticed an ABRA notice for Madhatter bar. There’s already a Madhatter around the corner on M Street, will be interesting if that dive is moving.”

It is indeed the same Mad Hatter from 1831 M Street, NW. I’m told if all goes according to plan the M Street space will close and the Connecticut Ave. space will open up sometime in November. Of course these dates tend to get pushed back, but this is definitely an interesting development. Any fans of the Mad Hatter? I haven’t been there in years.

“Dear PoP,

I’m moving from Columbia Heights to Mt. Pleasant soon, and I’m wondering about cable companies. I normally go with Comcast, but RCN is a lot cheaper and I’m on a budget. Do you/your readers have any advice or firsthand experience?”

We discussed some general recommendations here but does anyone have specific Mt. P recommendations?

Last week a reader sent in a photo of Tynan’s new sign for the spot on Irving Street in the Highland Park complex. I’m told that Tynan will open up Friday or Saturday of next week.

I’ve also been told that Tynan has an official spot in the Park Place complex above the Petworth Metro. They will take over the northern most retail space and will have outdoor seating. I’ll update news on that space as build out occurs.

Oh yeah, back to Columbia Heights. For those anticipating Chipotle’s opening on 14th Street – I’m hearing early December!

“Dear PoP,

Saw a guy on the metro this morning wearing a largeish lapel pin. It had a silver rim, a blue field, silver outline of the District, and red bars and stars. It looked expensive and official, and like it was meant to remind us of the pins members of Congress wear.

Any idea what this is?”

Hmm, I haven’t seen one of those before.  Perhaps they are given to Council Members?  Anyone know?

Ed. Note: Couldn’t find a DC lapel pin on flickr…

I couldn’t decide between these two photos so, I’ll just have to post both. They were taken by *tinadelarosa from inside the Basilica.

A reader writes:

“Wondering if this is a GDoN….the house first listed at $529,000 and the price has now dropped to $499,000. GDoN? It is at 1612 Newton St NW, just off 16th St.”

What do you think of the house itself? Does $499,000 sound reasonable for a 2 bed/2 bath?
