Adams Morgan Day Festival This Sunday!

Last year was a great time. I definitely think it is worth checking out.

The Adams Morgan Day Festival Web site says:

“The Adams Morgan Day 18th Street Festival is characterized by two large signature music stages and other innovative & dynamic cultural, music, arts and dance activities. The famous Columbia and Florida Stages (located strategically on 18th Street at Columbia Rd and at Florida Ave.) feature live music acts from all genres from Central and South America, Latin rock, salsa, jazz, to soul, funk and American rock.

Adams Morgan Day showcases the local business area
as an ethnic, eclectic retail, entertainment and restaurant locale.

•Arts on Belmont has long been a popular draw with its high quality of original artisans and range of media exhibited: glassware and metalwork, paintings, jewelry, sculpture & photography. Nestled on shade tree lined street of historic town homes, Arts on Belmont is a beautiful venue with articles in all price ranges.

•New in 2009 is the Green Pavilon with purveyors of all things green located together under one large tent! The Green Pavilon is near the Kids Area on the Marie Reed School field. I’ve featured this door before but walking on the other side of the street, I realized this house has an incredible roof deck. This is part of what makes this blog fun for me, I can walk down the same street a hundred times and notice 100 different things about it.

Coming to H Street, NE – Ramen Noodle Shop!

The Washington Business Journal broke the great news on Friday:

“The chef and restaurateur, who most recently worked as kitchen manager at Sticky Rice on H Street NE, is striking out on his own in the same neighborhood. He will open Toki Underground in a 950-square-foot space at 1234 (yeah, that’s not a typo) H St. NE, above popular neighborhood bar The Pug.”

This is phenomenal news. Noodle shops are a great inexpensive option for good grub. I can’t wait for them to open!

If you were out of town for Labor Day weekend, you may have missed this article (like I did). Thanks to a reader for sending. From the New York Times on Sept. 3rd:

“Washington’s fire department, which has not faced major layoffs, is dispatched along with Emergency Medical Services to almost all emergency calls in the belief that it can provide the quickest response. It gets more such calls per capita than just about any other fire department in the nation, and a disproportionate number come from poorer neighborhoods like Trinidad, where Engine 10 is based, in the Northeast section of the city.”

“Dear PoP,

Do you have any details on this project mentioned below? I think we need to know what exactly Central Union Mission is planning. Building a shelter or more subsidized housing in Columbia Heights or Petworth is a step in the wrong direction. I think now is the time for some community action to make sure the thoughts of the community are heard.”

Last we heard about this in April 2008 the Central Union Mission was not coming to Georgia Ave. At the time Council Member Graham wrote:

“We have re-defined the project to include real progress for lower Georgia Avenue. Instead of a 170-bed men’s shelter on the 3500 block of Georgia Avenue, there will now be mixed-income housing.”

So it seems that mixed-income housing would be a fine fit for that location. I had concerns with a 170-bed shelter but I have no problem with mixed-income housing. What do you guys think? Anyone have more specific plans?

The photos look pretty nice. I’m not sure if I’d highlight a “phone entry system” though… But seriously what do you think of the condo itself? Does $329,000 sound reasonable for this 2 bed/2bath?
