A note from Council Member Muriel Bowser from the Petworth Listserv: “ Chief Lanier called to discuss with me a leadership change in the Fourth District. Commander Hilton Burton has been temporarily reassigned. Inspector Linda Gilmore Brown has been named the Acting Commander. Chief Lanier will address Ward 4 residents and introduce the Acting Commander at an Emergency Crime Meeting in Takoma tomorrow.”

Following is a note from Chief Lanier:
Dear Fourth District Residents,

As a result of additional allegations of misconduct that have recently
come to my attention, I have decided that it is in the best interest of
the community and the Department that Commander Hilton Burton be
temporarily reassigned while the investigation is conducted.

Effective today, Inspector Linda Gilmore Brown will be the Acting
Commander of the Fourth District. Inspector Gilmore Brown is a 19-year
veteran of the Department and has spent her entire career at MPD. She
is both responsive and engaged in the community, and she will serve 4D
residents well. Please welcome Inspector Linda Gilmore Brown
(Linda.Gilmore@ dc.gov) to this listserv as well.

Thank you.

Cathy L. Lanier

Chief of Police

Thoughts on this? I’m all for some change. Wow, allegations of misconduct? What have I missed? I wish Cmdr Brown the best of luck and hope she supports proper patrols, of the foot or bicycle variety preferably. What are your thoughts on Cmdr Burton being reassigned?

For those interested in the meeting tomorrow the details are after the jump. (more…)

I took this picture last week and I can’t find my notes but I think it was just off of 13th near R St. maybe? At any rate it is a super cool garden. I like the entry way, I’m sure there must be a name for that. A trellis? The garden just gives off a very peaceful feeling.

More gardens to come in Spring…

14th and T Street, NW

Metrocurean has the scoop on 1902 14th Street, catty corner from St. Ex on 14th and T. By the by where does the expression catty corner come from? Anyway, Metrocurean reports: “Plans include a seasonal American restaurant on one floor with chef Brian Murphy at the helm, and a sushi operation by Wasabi Sushi on the second floor.” Sounds good to me. More sushi for U Street…

I feel like these folks are going to be striking for a long time. I can understand striking for better work hours, health care, higher wages, etc. But striking for justice? As far as I know, there hasn’t been any justice since the Yankees beat the Red Sox in game 7 of the ALCS in 2003.

Now if you don’t have a glider or a good chair for your porch you may try this route: the Hammock. Perhaps the most underrated from the outdoor “furniture” family. This particular hammock is the super sweet kind that wraps all around you when you lie in it. One drawback, it is difficult to have your morning coffee in it… However, an afternoon bottle of Budweiser is no problem at all.

Have you seen the cop car that has been parked outside the metro for a while around 6 o’clock on New Hampshire Ave. (By the by, the car was gone by 7:15 tonight.) I guess it is in response to the recent criminal activity. So, my concern is that the cops are just sitting in the car. They are certainly visible. But wouldn’t it be better if the car was parked there but they got out of the car and walked up and down New Hampshire. They two cops sitting in the car looked bored out of their minds. As I imagine I would be too. Is the car parked outside the metro in and of itself enough of a deterrent to hinder crime up and down New Hampshire Ave.? I feel like people complained and the powers that be said “alright, park a car outside the metro.” Do you think this is simply pandering? Does it make you feel safer?

As stated earlier a new Ethiopian Restaurant has come to Georgia Ave. Abol Restaurant and Market is located at 4422 Georgia Ave. It is open from 7am to 10pm so you have lots of opportunity to check it out. It has a really pleasant vibe about it almost like a relaxed cafe. But in addition to Ethiopian food they also offer Coffee, Cappuccinos, and Lattes. I unfortunately was just walking by and popped in but didn’t get to sample the goods yet. Has anyone eaten here yet? Check out the spices after the jump. (more…)
