I took an excursion to Mt. Pleasant this weekend and came upon this apartment building at Park Road and Mt. Pleasant Street. Pretty cool that all the residents agreed to this. How many languages do you recognize?

These have to be the sweetest storm doors I’ve ever seen…

Alright, well I’m not exactly sure what this is but when I walked past it I was mesmerized. I think it may have something to do with Scientology or the study of electricity. See what I mean, aren’t you mesmerized just by looking at the photo?

[Ed. Note: Eric Nuzum recently moved from Rockville, MD to Petworth and below answers the ubiquitous question – why?]
No less than four times since we put in an offer on our house on Emerson Street, a complete stranger has said the exact same thing to us.
Scene: Outside Stetsons around 12:30 Friday evening.
I get into a cab and the cabbie refuses to take me to Petworth.

I have previously illustrated how there seems to be a disturbing number of flimsy signs popping up at new stores all over town. So, I’ve decided to start a war against those who use these signs. By highlighting outstanding signs, I hope to shame those who throw up weak banners. Outstanding sign number one is this beautiful Shoe Repair sign from Mt. Pleasant Street.
From Councilmember Muriel Bowser’s weekly email:

Representatives from Safeway will be there to present and discuss their plans for construction of a new store at their Petworth location. Other updates will include the Park Place project above the Petworth Metro Station, the Residences at 3910 Georgia Avenue and others. There will be representatives available from all the development teams and DC government agencies. For more information please call Brandon Todd at 202-724-8052.”

I like all the glass. But, do you think that make your heating bill go through the roof?

So far we’ve seen lions, pinapples, and the Virgin Mary protecting the doorways of many neighborhood homes. Now, we can add snowmen to this list. But do you think they are seasonal? Come Spring do you think the snowmen will rotate out?

What a fantastic view of the National Cathedral from Mt. Pleasant.
