Across five sections, the 18th Street Singers spring concert—”Heartsong of a Nation: An American Choral Tapestry”—is an immersive journey through the songs of America, inviting audiences to embrace the diverse voices and stories that shape our collective choral tapestry. Repertoire will include contemporary works by Yannick Morgan (a world premiere!) and Ayanna Woods, inventive arrangements of Unclouded Day and Amazing Grace, and the classic spirituals of Motherless Child and Tambourines to Glory.

Friday, June 14th (in-person) or Saturday, June 15th (in-person & livestream)

June 16 is International Domestic Workers Day, and Well-Paid Maids is celebrating!

International Domestic Workers Day honors house cleaners, nannies and care workers. It marks the anniversary of the 2011 passage of the International Labour Organization Convention that established international labor laws for domestic workers.

Karen joined the Well-Paid Maids team as a cleaner in January 2021, and she was recently promoted to an operations manager! This well-deserved promotion is part of Well-Paid Maids’ effort to deliver better customer service with responses to phone calls and emails seven days a week.

To celebrate Karen’s promotion, we caught up with her to learn more about her time at Well-Paid Maids, the area’s only certified living-wage cleaning company.

Join local sketch comedy legends (in our own minds) Brick Penguin for an evening of live, dark, rip-roaring sketch comedy. See D.C.’s longest-running sketch comedy group do what they do best, when they’re not performing across the country in places such as the terrifying Philadelphia, the gooey Chicago, the M&M Store-y New York City, and the crunchy Seattle.

Now, our last show may or may not have mentioned Taylor Swift, and we may have gotten into some trouble from confused Swifties who thought they scored a $15 ticket to a Taylor Swift concert. So, to apologize and clear up any confusion, we’ve decided to dedicate another show to her. We promise she might or might not appear this time.
