My shero Val is a registered nurse with a huge heart for broken cats. She founded a nonprofit to find homes for kitties that other rescues often won’t take.
In 2011 I got out of the rain in a Petco. They had rescue adoptions with a photo of Floyd, a handsome gray tabby missing a front leg. He had a tipped ear, and they initially thought he was too angry to adopt. However, Val believed in him.
She got 24 people to crowdsource Floyd’s surgery, who all became the “Fans of Floyd.” Then I adopted him, and “mean, feral Floyd” (as his fan S. affectionately called him) became sweet. Later I adopted Edie, found wounded and crying in a dumpster. She and Floyd bonded, and I updated his fan club on the lovebirds every year. After nine years Edie passed and I took Simba, whom Val found in Cairo, Egypt with a bad eye, head tilt, and the BEST personality! She and Floyd also bonded. This post is in loving memory of Floyd, who passed at a happy 16.
Now Val has several gems you can adopt, including some from Egypt such as Doucette, who LOVES dogs, and Mocha, a gorgeous ragdoll, who likes cats. Each comes fully “vetted,” meaning s/he has shots and is neutered/spayed. You’ll love having a kitty with a difference, and that’s the best reason to adopt a special-needs cat. But the second best reason is that you’ll get to have Val in your life.
