“Meet my dog Oz. He is a rescue from WARL. His litter mates were the “O” litter, Oz, Oink, Oriole and Ooga Booga.”

“This is Lucy, doing what she loves to do most…. sleep!”

Ed. Note:  The cats are not competing against the dogs.  There will be 5 dog, cat and “other” finalists that will each compete in their own category.  We’ll have a poll in each category to select the winner.  Using the comments section for these posts will help me select the 5 finalists for each category.  I’ve gotten some amazing entries, and a lot of them (over a 100)!  So I’ll need your help selecting the finalists.  Maybe at the very end we’ll put the three winners in each category up for an overall winner.

The deadline for entries is August. 1st. Remember, please only send one photo per pet. You can see all the entries here. Please see after the jump for more entries.

“A faithful companion to his owners, Charlie Koerner brings a new meaning to the definition of a “boy wonder”. Full of determination, energy, and wit, he never fails to retrieve his ball from the deepest of depths. Swimming is only one of his many hobbies. Charlie also enjoys exploring history at the Rock Creek Cemetery, running along Rock Creek, frolicking with his friends at Clark Elementary School, and sipping beer on the patio at Wonderland.”

“This is my cat Spartikatz. I adopted him about a month ago from the Alexandria Animal Shelter. He is definitely the chillest dude cat I ever did meet. Spartikatz or Sparkseses, enjoys loungin on his back, eatin treats, talkin trash, sleepin on my head, drinkin outta cups, and as you can see from the photo–wearin white fur pants.”

“Unlike a lot of the dogooder dogs around town, Ramona makes no such claims. Her interests include bar hopping with her mom, pup pops from the Dairy Godmother, mooching, sleeping, rolling in the dirt, wagging her tail and humping asserting her supreme dominance over other dogs, even if they’re three times her size. If she were a Golden Girl, she’d be Blanche. But she’s happiest licking your face and getting her belly rubbed and is pretty sure that she deserves a treat for the pleasure of her company. In return she offers unconditional love and trust, and daily belly-laugh-inducing antics. She loves PoPville and has even had the pleasure of joing the Prince himself on a walkabout, not to mention going out in the field with me to research many of my contributions to PoP. Even if she doesn’t win – facelicks for everyone!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
