Happy Bastille Day!

This looks like it could be fun. Allez les bleus! I was wondering why L’enfant Cafe had added a gigantic absolute bottle…

Anyone know of better celebrations?  More info on Adams Morgan Bastille celebrations after the jump.

Celebrate July 14 Bastille Day in Adams Morgan where you can “eat French or act French” and sample international shopping and dining. Adams Morgan Main Street promotes sport, music, shopping and dining – for a fun and relaxed Tuesday outing.

Starting at 4pm, the National Capital Club de Pétanque gives lessons and demos of the popular French sport at the Marie Reed School field (2200 18th St NW at Wyoming Ave). All ages are welcome to learn and/or play petanque, which is similar to bocce ball down on the ball field which may also be entered from Califonia St NW.

At 6:00 pm, the Kamel Zennia Band offers a free concert in front of Marie Reed school near the 18th St entrance. Enjoy this lively blend of world folk and rock which usually inspires dancing and singing, including a repertoire of popular French songs.

At 8:00 pm, L’Enfant Cafe (2000 18th St. NW, www.lenfantcafe.com) is the place to be for its famous annual French Maid Relay Race. Patrons are encouraged to arrive early dressed in French maid costume to sign up to compete in DC’s funniest street race. Or just enjoy this most revolutionary bash from 5pm on with hosts King Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette, and free cake, music, door prizes, and food and drink specials.

Napoleon Bistro (1847 Columbia Rd. NW, www.napoleondc.com) offers free champagne to any patrons wearing red, white, and blue. For fine French dining, try La Fourchette (2429 18th St NW) and its sidewalk café. There are several French-influenced cuisines such as Cajun French at Bardias New Orleans Café (2412 18th St NW), Moroccan at Soussi (2228 18th St NW) and light Belgian fare at Locolat Café (1781 Florida Ave NW).

Adams Morgan’s eclectic boutiques, as well as sidewalk and rooftop cafes, and all its indie venues, offer the perfect place to enjoy a village atmosphere like a slice of Paris in the heart of Washington, DC. For a complete list of dining and shopping options, visit www.AdamsMorganNOW.org

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
