“The Berliner
A modern biergarten reborn in Washington, D.C. house-made sausages, rotating taps, and the spirit of Berlin.
Coming This Fall to Adams Morgan
🥨 House-made pretzels & sausages
🍺 Rotating taps
🍻 Built for gathering”
Back in September 2025 we broke the news that The Berliner would be reopening in Adams Morgan in the old Mellow Mushroom space on 18th Street. The Berliner closed at 3401 Water Street, NW in Georgetown, “due to extensive, multi-year renovations and construction planned by the building’s new owners” back in 2022. Almost a year ago I was told that the Popal Group (owners of fellow Adams Morgan hot spots Lapis and Maison Bar à Vin) bought the building most recently home to The Jerk Pit (et al). Word was that they would return The Berliner there. And as we used to say in the business – BOOM!
The Berliner’s website now says:
“THE BERLINER STARTED IN GEORGETOWN. NOW IT’S COMING BACK TO ADAMS MORGAN THIS FALL.
The Berliner began as a bold reinterpretation of German beer-hall culture; transforming a Georgetown warehouse into a lively home for house-made sausages, pretzels, and an expansive beer lineup inspired by Berlin’s vibrant street-food traditions.
After closing in 2022, we’re returning with the same communal spirit, hearty fare, and convivial hospitality that made us a neighborhood favorite, at a brand-new D.C. address.
A POPAL GROUP RESTAURANT
The Berliner is proud to be part of The Popal Group, a family-owned hospitality company that has spent more than two decades shaping Washington, D.C.’s dining scene. Across every concept, from Michelin Guide-recognized restaurants to neighborhood favorites, our approach remains the same: creating thoughtful spaces, serving ingredient-driven cuisine, and delivering genuine hospitality that brings people together.”
