Moving Out of Homelessness is the annual fundraiser gala supporting New Endeavors by Women (NEW), and will be held on September 24th, 2026 at the historic True Reformer Building on U Street from 5:30 -8:30 pm.
New Endeavors by Women (NEW) was founded in 1988 by a group of women volunteering at an emergency shelter in DC. These women witnessed a critical need for stable, consistent housing for women experiencing homelessness, and petitioned the DC government to fund a transitional housing program so women could focus on long-term goals in the safety of stable housing. NEW has maintained that founding vision ever since, partnering with women experiencing homelessness to create new futures.
NEW provides transitional and permanent housing and a nurturing, supportive environment in which women can recognize their worth, build stability, and achieve self sufficiency. Through housing and comprehensive case management, life skills development, education, and employment support, NEW works to end the cycle of homelessness.
Moving Out of Homelessness supports NEW, and features awards celebrating community members and partners who have championed NEW’s work, excelled at supporting NEW’s mission, and alumna who have demonstrated exceptional resilience and growth after their time at NEW.
DC Councilmember Brooke Pinto is the recipient of NEW’s 2026 Advocacy Award, and McKinsey & Co will be receiving the Volunteer Award. Former NEW Board Chair Iris Drayton-Spann (Stanton Chase DC) will receive the the Mary Popit Partner in Caring Award, and LaTisha Edwards (Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox) will be this year's New Light Alumna Awardee.
This year’s Moving Out of Homelessness gala will feature dinner, cocktails, and a silent auction featuring local businesses in the DC area.
