Free art exhibition opening downtown: Passport to Patriotism: 250 Years of Diplomacy runs July 30 through October 18 at the Art Museum of the Americas (201 18th St. NW), one of the museums closest to the White House!
Presented by the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Art in Embassies in partnership with the Art Museum of the Americas and the American Arts Conservancy, the exhibition is timed to America’s 250th anniversary and brings together more than 30 contemporary American artists exploring patriotism, diplomacy, and national identity through painting, sculpture, photography, fashion, and large-scale installations. Highlights include Romero Britto’s Statue of Liberty, Brendan Murphy’s BOONJI Spaceman, a Betsy Ross-inspired couture gown, and Scott LoBaido’s monumental hand-painted American flag.
Also on view are 15 award-winning works from the nationwide American Heroes Student Art Contest, representing student artists in grades 3–12 selected from all 50 states and six U.S. territories.
Admission is FREE and open to the public. Museum hours are Tuesday–Sunday, 9:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. and 1:30–5:00 p.m.
