OK first the hype for Bar Cana (pictured above) is for real. It is legit. There is a reason it’s difficult to get a seat. It’s worth the wait. Yo! The food is so ridiculously good. Honestly, and I’m a drinker, the food blew me away. Having said that, the drinks were damn good too. Loving the Brazilian vibe. My goodness. The music. The people. The staff. Ah man, I love when good spots meet the hype. Only drawback is it’s a bit on the pricey side but what isn’t these days.
OK on the other hand, a spot with very little hype (besides my own) is Hifi:

This place is legit for very different reasons. It is a real fucking bar. God bless it there is a dearth of new real bars in this town these days. This is a bar where you can belly up and talk shit about basketball or anything on your mind or just sit and sip a high life. A real proper regular bar. GOOD people. REAL people. Fantastic bartenders. Genuine. Hard to find these days. Not impossible but hard. A very welcome addition. Good prices too. Well my friend bought drinks but I think they were reasonable. Thanks E!
I do note, I’m told, some nights there are DJs so I imagine the vibe changes a bit later in the evening. Also, a downstairs, speakeasy, is set to open in a few weeks – I’m looking forward to checking that out too. Will report back.
Ed. Note: In no way does my appreciation for these two spots take away from my deep everlasting love for Jack Rose (2007 18th Street, NW). Please know that you are forever in my heart even if I am drinking elsewhere.
