Today’s theme is…if I had a million dollars. So many great places to live in Washington, DC–particularly in the Petworth/Columbia Heights/Mount Pleasant area–and yet, if you’re within my non-profit wage range, anyway, so many places that are just out of reach financially. So here they are–the apartments I’d want to rent if I worked for profit.
Patios and levels. That’s what this two bedroom, two bath offers–perks that I wish were standard. Also designer halogen lighting, industrial exposed spiral ducts (I’m not exactly sure what those are, but they sound cool regardless), and commercial stained concrete floors. The master bedroom can be gotten to from an iron spiral staircase. Loft living, ho.
The patio is private, and comes complete with a four person jacuzzi tub.
Going for $2,900, located on Lamont street. More rentals after the jump.

I love this one! This must be where the phrase “English basement” originated–doesn’t it have that Blighty flair with the stone facade and patio? There’s a feeling this is a house for intellectuals…you can tell because of the built in bookcases in the front hall.
$1,625 for a one bedroom basement in a house near the zoo, on Lamont and Adams Mill Road. The backyard patio, which is gorgeous, is shared, along with a grill.

So I usually find that what turns me off about studio apartments is having no partition–either real or perceived–between my bed and my kitchen. I’m not exactly sure why–perhaps I don’t want my bedroom to smell like a restaurant? Or maybe I’m worried about cooking splatters getting on my bed. That’s why I really like this studio–that breakfast island creates a nice divide between food and sleep. It also helps that the unit has 9-foot ceilings for creating a feeling of lots of space.
$1,295 for this spacious studio. It also comes semi-furnished, and has a landscaped courtyard “for sitting and relaxing.” (And I suspect some partying.)

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
