Mardi Gras Extravaganza DC

Mardi Gras Extravaganza DC is back with its third annual blowout party at The Showroom on 14th Street, Fat Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from 6-10 p.m.

Join the only native New Orleans chef and TV personality in D.C., David Guas, along with friends — celebrity chef Spike Mendelsohn, Micheline Mendelsohn, mixtress Gina Chersevani, Bruce Pike with Pike Productions and New Orleans native Simone Rathle for an all you can eat drink and dance night of revelry benefiting DC Central Kitchen.

Under the helm of famed mixologist Gina Cherservani, over 12 mixologists will serve the best of New Orleans classics, in a competition to win title of Best Hurricane Cocktail.

Chefs David Guas and Spike Mendelsohn curate 25 chefs from around the region to highlight a NOLA inspired dish focused on deliciousness and sustainability and battling for the title of Best Chef Bite. Save some room for the original tri-colored King Cake stuffed with cream cheese by Chef David Guas, or explore something new — King Cake Doughnuts and Milkshakes!

A live broadcast of Bourbon Street projected on our custom LED Wall creates the perfect backdrop for the amazing sounds of the best Louisiana style bands jamming throughout the night. Tables of complimentary masks and beads add to the spirit of this exciting evening.

The rattling of the bartender’s shakers and the smell of shrimp po’boys, red beans and rice, and jambalaya with potent andouille sausage fill the air. It’s clear that an authentic celebration is taking place and it’s unlike any other event in D.C.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
