From an email:
“This beautiful new artwork was created by Rania Hassan and welcomes visitors to the District coming in along Route 50 as well as neighbors to Mamie “Peanut” Johnson Plaza.
CURVE draws inspiration from the two defining chapters of Mamie’s life. Its sweeping form evokes
the movement of a curveball and the stitching of a baseball, while its intertwined elements reference nursing and medicine—reflecting Johnson’s dual legacies as a pioneering baseball player and dedicated nurse. The sculpture was funded through a Public Art Building Communities grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, which supports public artwork that connects artists and their work with District communities.”
