“There are currently more than 8,000 customers without power in the District and more than 22,000 in Prince George’s County.”

From Pepco:

“Pepco Crews Work Around the Clock to Safely Restore Power After Severe Storms

We know how difficult it is to be without power, especially after severe weather. Pepco crews are working safely and as quickly as possible to restore service to more than 31,000 customers after a dangerous line of thunderstorms moved through the District and Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties in Maryland last night. The storms brought strong winds, frequent lightning and heavy rain that damaged trees, power lines and utility poles across the Pepco service area.

The hardest-hit areas include parts of the District and Prince George’s County, where crews are repairing damage from downed trees, broken poles and damaged power lines. We understand customers want to know when their power will be restored, and crews will continue working until every customer who can safely receive service is restored. Hardest-hit areas include portions of the District and Prince George’s County. There are currently more than 8,000 customers without power in the District and more than 22,000 in Prince George’s County. We know being without power is difficult, and we appreciate our customers patience as our crews continue working safely to make repairs in their communities. Based on the current conditions, we estimate power will be restored to 90 percent of customers by 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 6. We will continue to update the estimated restoration time as work progresses.

The National Weather Service is forecasting another round of storms for the Pepco region later today.

“We know being without power is frustrating and disruptive, and our crews are focused on safely restoring service as quickly as possible,” said Rodney Oddoye, Pepco’s Chief Operating Officer. “We continue to invest in a stronger, more reliable energy grid to help reduce the impact of severe weather and better serve our communities across DC, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s County for years to come.”

How We Restore Power

Our first priority is always safety. Crews respond to emergencies and restore power to critical facilities, including hospitals, nursing homes, fire stations and police stations.
From there, crews make repairs that can safely restore power to the largest number of customers as soon as possible.
Crews then repair major equipment and power lines that serve large neighborhoods and communities.
Next, crews work on repairs that restore power to smaller groups of homes and businesses.
Finally, crews complete repairs for individual homes and businesses that can safely receive service.

Please Stay Safe

Your safety is our top priority. Please stay far away from damaged electrical equipment, downed power lines and tree limbs that may be touching power lines.
If you see a downed wire or need to report an outage, please call 1-877-PEPCO-62 (1-877-737-2662) or report and track your outage through the Pepco mobile app or at pepco.com/storm.
If it is safe, please check on elderly neighbors, relatives or anyone nearby who may need extra help.
If you are using a generator, please use it safely. Never connect a generator directly to your home’s wiring, never use one indoors or in an attached garage, and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Storm Protection

We know customers are counting on reliable service, especially as severe weather becomes more frequent and more intense. That is why Pepco continues to invest in projects that strengthen the local energy grid, reduce the impact of outages and better protect the communities we serve. This includes targeted upgrades across the District and Maryland, as well as undergrounding efforts such as DC PLUG in the District, which are designed to move sensitive electric equipment underground to help protect it from stronger storms and improve long-term reliability for customers.
