“Urban Garden Brewing will open the doors to its first permanent home, Urban Garden Brewhouse, on Friday, June 19, 2026, with a Juneteenth grand opening celebration in Shaw. Founded by brewer, hospitality professional, and native Washingtonian Eamoni Collier, Urban Garden Brewing is recognized as D.C.’s first Black woman-owned brewery. The Juneteenth opening marks a major milestone for the company and a meaningful return to the former Right Proper Brewing space, where Collier spent eight years working earlier in her career.
The celebration begins at 1 PM with an official ribbon cutting, followed by a full day of beer, live Go-Go music by N2L Band, arcade games, and family-friendly programming. Opening weekend will continue on Saturday, June 20, with a brunch party at Urban Garden Brewhouse.
“As a D.C. native, my passion for brewing started early in my career,” said Collier. “I fell in love with the process, but I also saw a gap in how craft beer connected with the local community. With Urban Garden Brewhouse, I want to create a place where craft beer feels more welcoming and accessible.”
Earlier this year, Right Proper co-founders Leah and Thor Cheston publicly handed the keys to Collier, marking the transition with a gesture of mentorship and respect within D.C.’s brewing scene.
Urban Garden Brewing has built a following across the District through collaborations, pop-ups, and local events. Its new Shaw home gives the company a permanent space for its botanical-inspired beer program and future events rooted in art, music, and local partnerships. Urban Garden Brewhouse will welcome beer drinkers and non-drinkers alike, with a focus on approachable flavors and a warm environment for the neighborhood.
