Signs of the Times – Taylor Street Bike Lane edition

Thanks to Samantha for sending from Brookland.

From DDOT:

“This project aims to provide a safe, protected east-west connection for bicyclists and safe connections to the schools along this corridor. This project will improve pedestrian safety by adding traffic calming measures along the corridor. This project is one portion of a larger east-west corridor bikeways project extending from Rock Creek Church Rd NW to South Dakota Avenue NE.

DDOT conducted a traffic analysis for the corridor to help refine concepts and identify potential alternatives, while continuing to meet with stakeholders. As DDOT worked to wrap up the “Existing Conditions / Needs Assessment” phase of the project, we hosted an Open House event where we shared what we have heard so far and invited the community to provide final input on the existing conditions along Taylor Street from South Dakota Avenue NE to N Capital Street NW.

DDOT is using this stakeholder and community feedback along with the traffic analysis to further refine concepts for a protected bike lane along the corridor. Once concepts have been developed, they will be shared with the community at an Open House and online prior to the selection of a concept to move forward to design.

You can review the meeting materials presented at the March 31, 2026 Open House here: OPEN HOUSE MEETING MATERIALS.”
