Please see the flyer (above) for 1882 Foundation’s Mabel Lee Mural fundraiser. Led by the 1882 Foundation to ensure that Chinese American history is recognized, preserved, and integrated into the American narrative, this mural will be located in a highly visible public space in Washington, DC’s Chinatown.
Mabel Ping-Hua Lee, a suffragist, fought for women’s right to vote, although she herself was denied right because of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. This mural will connnect Mabel Ping-Hua Lee’s story to enduring American ideals of democracy and civic participation and brings an overlooked chapter of American history into public view.
