Statement from Scott Kratz, President & CEO of Building Bridges Across the River and Founding Director of 11th Street Bridge Park:

“We’re thrilled to share that last week, the DC Council voted unanimously to facilitate the transfer of three acres of National Park Service land that will become 11th St Bridge Park to the District government, officially putting us on track for a groundbreaking in 2026.

This area will house the Bridge Park’s Environmental Education Center, our 250-seat River Amphitheater, a kayak/canoe launch, and an urban farm for the community. This marks a tremendous milestone for our team and the community, reflecting more than a decade of community-driven planning and close collaboration with District leaders. We are deeply grateful to the friends, partners, and neighbors who helped make this once a pie-in-the-sky dream to build DC’s first elevated park a reality for our city.”
