“Dear PoPville,
I’m so sad to hear about the news of Basebowl’s closing. It will always hold a special place in my heart — it unexpectedly became part of a fun ‘tradition’ with a new person in my life!
I met this guy in the summer of ‘24 out in the wild (in DC, meaning an ABA networking event that I crashed with a friend). We saw each other a few more times in a chaotic kind of way, but our friendship / budding romance rekindled in the spring of ‘25 with the start of baseball season.
We first stumbled upon Basebowl
as a way to kill time while fans dissipated after the game, but we quickly realized what a cute spot it was.
The food was quite good, but in some ways it was secondary to the warm atmosphere that Basebowl provided. It was always bustling, but never too crowded, and most importantly, the service was always incredibly attentive and efficient.
We went to at least a dozen Nats games together, and win or lose, we could always count on Basebowl as a nice way to end the evening.
Do you know that feeling when you realize you’re falling for someone? For me, that slow burn will be inextricably linked to the taste of a strong lychee cocktail and dry-fried string beans while laughing about the shambolic state of the Washington Nationals. (Respectfully!)
I don’t know yet what lies ahead for me and this man, but I’ll always cherish the memories we made at Basebowl.
Shoutout to the owners and staff who made it such a gem. Truly wish them all the best with their future endeavors!”
