Ed. Note: Miss Pixie’s closed here on Friday 10/31.
From a press release:
“On Saturday, November 22, Garlic Girl Vintage will host their grand opening. Located in Adams Morgan at 1830 Columbia Rd NW — the site currently occupied by legendary DC institution Miss Pixie’s — Garlic Girl will offer playful kitchenware, whimsical wall art from local artists, colorful glassware, quirky trinkets, vintage costume jewelry, and even live, easy-to-care-for plants.
The Garlic Girl brand is no stranger to the DC vintage scene. Owner Vanessa Pius (they/them) has been a fixture in the DC vintage scene for years, offering their colorful, romantic home decor at pop-ups around the District, including at the Dupont Little Flea Market, Union Market, and shops across the DMV.
“Garlic Girl is curated with small living spaces in mind,” says Vanessa Pius, owner of Garlic Girl Vintage. “Whether you’re taking your treasures home on foot, the bus, or a rideshare, we’re here to help the people who want their homes to feel fun and personal. I’m also excited to continue Miss Pixie’s legacy of embracing DC’s LGBTQ+ community by featuring original work by local queer and trans artists. We’re offering the magic, personality, and literal lasting power of vintage home decor for DC residents who want an alternative to boring and unsustainable big-box homewares.”
The shop will host ten inaugural vendors, with most belonging to the DMV LGBTQ+ community. The store specializes in colorful glassware, whimsical gallery wall fodder, hostess-with-the-mostess barware, unexpected candle holders, fruity kitchenware, trinket dishes galore, and reworked vintage plant vessels (featuring live, easy to care for plants). Other vendors at Garlic Girl will offer vintage costume jewelry, playful fiber artwork, vibrant kitchenware, and more.
“I am very excited for Vanessa and Garlic Girl,” said Miss Pixie Windsor, owner of Miss Pixie’s, who has been working with Vanessa on transitioning the store to Garlic Girl. “Operating Miss Pixie’s has been a lovely adventure that became so much more than I could’ve ever expected, and I think they will definitely have the same experience. It’s a beautiful thing to become part of people’s homes that they are building together!

Vanessa takes inspiration from turn-of-the-century lesbian photographers, midcentury illustrations, maximalist mixed media artwork, saturated floral wallpaper, color drenching, and unexpected, humorous design choices. They’re almost always accompanied by their three-legged dog and GGV’s CFO, Sasha.
Garlic Girl Vintage will officially open on Saturday, November 22.”
