From an email:
“During the federal government shutdown, many museums and National Park Service sites are closed to visitors. Historic Congressional Cemetery, however, remains open.
As an independent nonprofit organization, we are not part of the federal government, and we continue to welcome visitors, volunteers, and community members every day.
We understand this is a challenging and uncertain time for many, especially for furloughed federal employees and their families.
Our historic grounds offer a place of peace, reflection, and connection. A reminder that even in difficult moments, community endures.
Here are a few ways to spend time with us:
. Visit the Cemetery: Take a quiet walk beneath the trees, explore over 200 years of history across our 35-acres, and discover the stories of those who helped shape our nation.
. Walk Your Dog: Furloughed federal employees can enjoy a free Day Pass for onsite dog walking, just show your valid government ID.
. Pause and Reflect: Sometimes the most powerful moments come in stillness and nature. Our grounds offer a serene space to slow down, breathe deeply, and recharge.
We hope Congressional Cemetery can offer a small measure of comfort, purpose, and calm in the days ahead.
The cemetery is open daily. Learn more on our website.”
