I know you’re familiar with Kouzina Angelina’s on Florida and 8th NW, next to the former Town space. Stopped by to find Angelina’s son working the order counter where she used to hold court. Asked about his mom and he told us she had passed.

Don’t know anything more, but she was such an icon of the neighborhood for so many people over so many years (first met her after a late night on U Street in my mid 20s in 2013. Now in my late 30s and have been living here since).

I feel such a warm, hospitable women to countless late night party goers – a real nonna of U Street to many who needed that – deserves more than she’s gotten.”
